Langtang Gosaikunda Trek Overview

Langtang valley is one of the most famous trekking trails in Nepal. It is well known for its evergreen forests, eye-pleasing view of mountains, and ethnic Tamang and Tibetan culture. It is indeed a whiff of fresh air once you see the never-ending lakes along the Gosainkunda trail and the white snow-capped mountains along the way. The trip explores both of the high profile destinations in the Langtang region, the Langtang Valley and Gosainkunda lakes.

The trek is 15 days long and, within these two weeks, you will experience the most beautiful natural aesthetic beauty offered by Nepal. The trip starts at Kathmandu, where you will prepare for the trek. After ideal preparations, a short drive across the Trishuli Highway will take you to Syabrubensi. From here, you start the trek and first head to Lama Hotel, followed by a trip into the Langtang Valley. From Lama Hotel, you will follow the Langtang River north to Ghoda Tabela and begin to head east. The trail takes you to Langtang village with the views of mountains in Langtang and Dorje Lakpa range. From Langtang village, you will head to Kyanjin village and explore the village for the next day. You can visit the famous Kyanjin Gompa here. From Kyanjin, you will start your descend back to Lama Hotel.

Further, you head to Thulo Syabru the next day. Next, you make your way to Gosainkunda via Lauri Binayak. Gosainkunda Lake lies at an altitude of 4165m and is most famous for its aesthetically pleasing appearance. The Gosainkunda is an alpine freshwater lake which gives a new definition to the word blue. We will take a one day rest at Gosainkunda before taking a detour to Dhunche via Chandanbari.

As soon as you arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport, our staff will be there to receive you and drop you to your hotel. After getting refreshed in your hotel, you can visit some of the popular tourist destinations. Alternatively, you can also buy or rent trekking equipment in Thamel.

After breakfast, you will leave for Syabrubensi via a jeep. On the way, you drive along the Trishuli River and picturesque hills on the Trishuli Highway. This road trip also may take you through some rough terrains along the way. You will reach Syabrubensi in the second half of the day. For the rest of the day, you can explore around and enjoy the local culture and lifestyle.

This will be your first trek, which is a steep uphill climb that takes you past forests of bamboos and oaks. As the trail follows the Langtang River, you will reach Bamboo village. From here, the trek heads further east to Lama Hotel. It is a popular stop to all the trekkers on the journey across the Langtang Valley.

Today, we finally make our way to Langtang village. On our way, we pass through thick forests of rhododendrons, pines and wild oaks. The trail reaches Gumanechok and further continue to reach Ghoda Tabela. The alluring figures of the Langtang range will keep you company as you trek towards the Langtang village. The village is located in the Langtang Valley, which is a wide valley located near the Tibetan border. The people living there are mostly Tibetan and Tamang.

This is a relatively easier trek compared to the other days. You will be passing many small monasteries and shrines on the way to Kyanjin Gompa. For the final part of the trek, you will go past Mundu and reach Kyanjin village. You will spend a night here, which gives you the chance to learn about the culture and tradition of people living here.

After having breakfast, you will make your descent back to Lama Hotel. This is a relatively longer trekker, but it’s easier as you will be going downhill rather than hiking up. You can revisit the places that you came through just days ago. The trail gets more relaxing as you are about to reach Lama Hotel since there are no more steep terrains. You will reach Lama Hotel in the late afternoon and take rest.

Today, you will descend from Kyanjin Gompa to Lama Hotel. This route takes you through Langtang Village, where you can witness the contrast between the high-altitude landscapes and the green forests of the lower areas. The trail follows along the Langtang River, with beautiful forest paths, small villages, and stunning views. The trek is mostly downhill, offering a chance to enjoy the serene environment while making your way back to Lama Hotel.

After spending a night in Lama Hotel, you will head to Thulo Syabru, which is the starting point of the trek to Gosainkunda. Thulo Syabru is a small village in the lower plains of the Rasuwa district. On the way to Thulo Syabru, you will again pass the village Bamboo, where we will stop for lunch. Thulo Syabru is a Tamang village where you get an introduction to the local culture.

After breakfast, you will make your final climb to Gosainkunda from Lauri Binayak. Gosainkunda is the highest point in our trek, with an elevation of 4165m. This is one of the most beautiful trails as we pass through small pastures and beautiful little streams before reaching Gosainkunda. You can relish the stunning views of the Langtang range while exploring the Gosainkunda Lake periphery.

The trek from Cholangpati to Gosainkunda Lake is one of the most scenic parts of the journey. You’ll pass Langtang Himal and a series of cascading waterfalls before reaching the sacred Gosainkunda Lake. This lake is an important pilgrimage site for Hindus, and it is surrounded by other holy lakes like Saraswati Kunda and Bhairav Kunda. The area is tranquil, with dramatic mountain views and a spiritual atmosphere, making it a memorable highlight of the trek.

Gosainkunda is an alpine freshwater lake that lies in the Langtang National Park region of Nepal in the Rasuwa district. Gosainkunda is not only aesthetically pleasing, but it also has a religious significance. It is an ancient belief that Lord Shiva conjured this lake with his mighty Trishul because he was thirsty. Thousands of Hindu devotees visit this lake every year. The view of the lake is breathtaking, and you can also visit nearby glacier lakes and forests.

After breakfast, proceed to the next destination, Tharepati. This trip takes about 7 hours. The trail is a little more challenging as we ascend to Lauribinayak Pass (4,610 m). This is the highest point of the entire trek. The pass offers beautiful views of mountains, forests, and beautiful landscapes.

Today will be an easy day for us as we walk for 5 hours towards Kutumsang. Kutumsang is a beautiful local village in the Tamang community. Sunrise in Kutumsang offers a beautiful view of the snow-capped mountains. The trail descends through the forest to Magen Goth (3285 m). After the climb, head to Kutumsang.

After breakfast, we will continue our tour to Chisapani. Start the descent towards Gul Bhanjyang and Thotundanda. The trail offers panoramic views of the Himalayas and beautiful rhododendron forests. From here, we follow the stone steps to Chisapani via Chipling and Thankune Bhanjyang. Chisapani is known for its sunrise.

Breakfast is served after watching the sunrise in the early morning. We start our journey to the small town of Borlang. From here, we go down to the village of Mulkharka. It is a short walk to Sundarijal. From there we will make a short trip of about 1 hour to Kathmandu.

  • We have daily departures for this trip from March to May and from mid-September to mid-December. You can type in the number of passengers to book a reservation and select a date that is convenient for you. Due to group size, we never cancel a trip once you’ve made a reservation. If you would rather join the group, we will add more travelers on the selected date. You can let us know once you make a reservation or earlier.

  • This wonderful adventure of fewer than two weeks (12 / 13 days) trek walk and climbing above Tserko and Kyanjin-Ri above 5,000 m views points.
    The trek takes you to cross Gosainkund Pass at 4,609 m high to reach Kathmandu via the Helambu area of Kutumsang and Gul Bhanjyang.

  • The best time is spring from March to May, and autumn/fall begins from September to early November. These are the best times for pleasant walks and views but could get snowfall sometimes. Much colder morning and evening, nighttime, but with clear sunny most of the days.

  • Walking ups and down with few flat sections, walk into lovely woods of rhododendron and pines. The trek leads to several nice Tamang villages adorned with ancient culture and heritage of Buddhism, visiting monasteries of great religious interest. Encountering friendly and cheerful villagers, cold morning and night time but with sunny clear days for excellent views of snow-capped peaks.
    Crossing above 4,609 m pass over Gosainkunda-La High Ridge from one beautiful valley to other scenic areas, truly an extreme adventure to experience.

  • The trek starts from Syabrubesi at 1,470 m and crosses Gosainkunda-La or East Laurabinaya and passes at 4,609 m. A side trip to Tserko or Kyanjin-Ri at above 5,000 m the highest point of the adventure with the closest views of the surrounding Langtang and Jugal Himal range of peaks.

  • Accommodation in local lodges is simple but nice, clean and cozy but smaller rooms on leaving Syabrubesi at Lama Hotel, Langtang village, and at Kyanjin Gompa. Including Upper Syabru, Sing Gompa, Gosiankund till Chisapani.
    But in Syabrubesi and Chisapani the hotels and lodges are of a high standard with attached bathrooms. Having large warm dining rooms serves a comprehensive food menu from Continental, Chinese, Indian, and Tibetan to Nepal meals. Some lodges also provide fresh bakery items also. The main preferred meal is Nepali Dal Bhat (boiled rice and lentil soup with seasonal vegetables and homemade hot sauce or mild pickle. The large group provides set meals to make it easier as well as to save time and fuel energy.

  • Nearly all main villages as far towards Kyanjin and Gosainkund have internet service, but sometimes due to landscapes wise entering deep valleys and gorges where internet services could be obstructed.

  • To book with “Brown Bear Trails” a minimum of one month or earlier is the best. Sending your passport details, and advance payment with the photocopy of Travel / Medical Insurance. The rest of the trip balance is to be paid on arrival in Kathmandu before trek departures.
