The best of Ladakh Tour begins from the lovely Leh, the capital town of Ladakh where most heritage sites are located. The tour extends far and wide beyond Ladakh an opportunity to witness local rural farm life and culture.
Ladakh, the name relates as the land of high passes and is famously known for its impressive culture and beauty of its beautiful landscapes. Ladakh also called as Khapa-Chan, means the land of snow land, as well known as “Little Tibet”.

Best seasons for Ladakh Tour:

The best time for this wonderful Best of Ladakh Tour is from the late spring to autumn seasons, late spring April and May, and autumn/fall begins from September to October months.

April & May are fine clear days most of the time, with longer sun-light hours but can get overcast in the late afternoon with chances of snow sometimes. Autumn / Falls another best time for the climb and tour of Ladakh with a fine clear day. But days are short with sunlight hours can be freezing cold, especially in the morning, and night times will be clear with bright starry nights. Chances of snowfall around higher areas.

For interested people can visit Ladakh for a tour and trekking during summer times of June to August also. As Ladakh falls within rain shadow area, where monsoon dark rain clouds blocked by the great Himalayas. That is why Ladakh most areas are dry with fewer rains.

Religion and Culture

Ladakh and the North West Himalaya are populated by Ladakhi people descendants of a mixed tribal race of Mons of North India, and Dards of Baltistan with Mongols of Central Asia. History shows the Mons were the first immigrants, followed by Dards who founded different settlements in the Indus valley. Follows strong Buddhism religion and culture similar to Tibetan culture of ancient Buddhism heritage with many monasteries of great religious significance.

Details Itinerary

Day 1 : Arrival at Leh / Ladakh 3, 500 m Kushok Bakula Rimpoche airport and transfer to hotel.

Morning after a short scenic of an hour flight to Leh from Delhi, on arrival at Leh, Ladakh Kushok Bakula Rimpoche. As you head outside the air terminal, our staff and guide receives you for short drive in the heart of Leh town to your Hotels. Afternoon free at leisure, optional walk to the center of Leh and the market.

Day 2 : A day in Leh for acclimatization and tour of Leh former palace, Shanti Stupa overnight in View Point Hotel.

At Leh, for acclimatization and for exciting tour at places of interest, Leh has a vast range of main bazaar on the street colorful local fruits and vegetables vendors. The streets are busy with roadside restaurant, cafes and craft shops. The old Leh Palace stands on the top of the high hill overlooking Leh City and its valley. The white Peace (Shanti) Stupa stands nearby high on a hill which is worth a visit for the great views of Leh. The world’s highest Polo ground is located beyond the main bus station, rest of the day free at leisure to browse around Leh, Ladakh capital.

Day 3 : At Leh tour of Shey, Thiksey, and Hemis Monastery.

Morning after breakfast, a full day tour taking a drive to Hemis, one of the largest and wealthiest monasteries in Ladakh with more than 150 monks; an annual Hemis festival is held. The monastery, stands in a gorge surrounded by mountain scenery, built in 18th Century.
On the way back to Leh visit Thiksey Gompa built in 16th Century, situated on a hill top. The monastery enriched with Tibetan-style books, a huge Buddha statue and excellent works of arts.
Last stop on the way back to Leh, tour of ruined Shey Palace once a summer palace of the pre-Tibetan kings. Shey and its fort also known as Lachen Palkar Palace, an old fort with a monastery. Shey the earlier capital of Ladakh till 19th Centuary the massive nine-story stone structure lies at the base of the Tsemo ridge and towers over the old town. Built by King Senge Namgyal during 15th till 17th Centuary in a Tibetan style.
The palace monastery houses a large, bronze, blue haired Buddha statue and then drive to Leh hotel for overnight.

Day 4 : Drive and tour of Likir, Alchi Gompa and Lamayuru 3,366 m – 05 hrs.

Today, another exciting day for scenic drive beyond Leh within a distance of 120 km distance from Leh to Lamayuru. Located over beautiful Leh Kargil highway a dramatic scenery of moon like landscapes.
On route to Lamayuru tour of Liker Monastery, a 12 storied 800 years old, a replica of Potala Palace which is in Tibet-Lhasa. Perched atop a red hill,
the monastery established in 11th century and rebuilt in the 18th century.
Observe a 25-foot-tall (7.6 m) gold-covered Buddha statue, after an interesting tour of Liker. Visiting famed monasteries, drive continues along the Indus River, then crossing Indus River as journey leads to Alchi for another interesting visit of Alchi monastery, the Chorten around Alchi Gompa contains numerous wall murals of Lotsava Rinchen Zangpo, who has built this monastery. Alchi monastery has vast collections of wall paintings, and wood sculpture, from Alchi drive to Lamayuru tour of the oldest monastery in Ladakh, founded by Indian scholar Mahasiddhacharya Naropa in 11th century. Lamayuru host mask dance festival (Yuru Kabgyat) during 17th and 18th day of fifth months of the Tibetan Lunar calendar. It belongs to red hat sect of Tibetan Buddhism; monastery is rich with Thankas and wall paintings.
Lamayuru monastery was constructed by Arahat Nimagung in between 10th and 11th century. In the 11th century the Mahasidha Naropa visited Lamayuru and the cave where he resided and meditated is still to be seen inside the monastery.
After a long interesting day drive back to Leh by late afternoon and at leisure for next day adventure to Numbra valley.

Day 5 : Drive to Hunder village, Nubra Valley 4,010 m via Khardung-La pass 5,600 m-05 hrs.

Start after early breakfast for another exciting drive from Leh to Nubra a valley with scenic landscape and very beautiful. Where our guide will obtain the inner permit to visit Nubra valley in Leh. The only one road access to Nubra valley driving over Khardung-La, which is the highest motorable road in the world.
Nubra is about 150 Km from Leh taking near 5 hours with refreshing stop at Khardung-La. After catching grand views of surrounding dramatic scenery of amazing landscapes, drive continue towards Nubra valley for overnight halt in Hundar village. Nubra the highest altitude desert with sand dunes time permitting ride camel ride on Bactrian a double humped camel. The origin of this camel species found in Gobi Desert around North China and Mongolia.
Another attraction of Nubra is Diskit Monastery, situated on a hill top with a beautiful 32 meter high beautiful statue of future Buddha known as Matriya Buddha. Overnight in tented camps at Hundar village.

Day 6 : Morning ride on camel, and drive to Pangbong Lake 4, 350 m -04 hrs.

Options for camel ride, if not done on first day at Nubra having a hearty breakfast drive to Pangbong Lake via Agham-Shyok road. Where drive leads on a smooth road, then reaching at Pangong Tso / Lake from Nubra Valley taking about 4 hours. At Pangbong Lake or Tso in local language for Lake of Tibetan origin, which is 134 km long, stretches from India to Tibet / China. The main and largest tourist attractions of Ladakh. The lake designated as a wetland with international significance under the Ramsar Convention, the first in South Asia to be a trans-boundary wetland. Overnight stop either in guest house cottage and huts or in tented camping of all basic facilities.

Day 7 : Drive back to Leh (222. Km) – 05 ½ hrs.

Enjoy the morning views of the huge Pangbong Lake as it changes the color along with morning sun-light. After breakfast a drive of more than five hours from Pangbong to Leh, for last overnight in Ladakh. Having marvelous experience on Best of Ladakh Tour.

Day 8 : Depart from Leh flight to Delhi to catch international flight.

As per the flight time for Delhi depart from the hotel, guide and staff transfer you for a short drive to the airport for Delhi flight to connect your international flight back home or to respective destinations, after a wonderful memorable time and experience on Best of Ladakh Tour.

  • We have daily departures for this trip from March to May and from mid-September to mid-December. You can type in the number of passengers to book a reservation and select a date that is convenient for you. Due to group size, we never cancel a trip once you’ve made a reservation.
