THE BEST SEASONS FOR CHITWAN WILDLIFE SAFARI:

The best seasons are spring, from March to May, and autumn/fall, which begin from September to November. Interested travelers can visit all year round, except for the summer/monsoon time of mid-June to August. 

During the springtime, most days are bright with longer sunny days, but it can get cloudy sometimes in the afternoons. The late afternoons, nights, and mornings are cooler; the right time to visit is when wildflowers are in seasonal bloom.

The next best season is autumn/fall, with bright sun, to enjoy the views of snow-capped peaks. Days are short with limited sunlight hours, cold mornings, afternoons, and nights. 

Enjoy the tour during winter as well, most days are crystal clear for views and a jungle safari. Cold temperatures occur during the mornings, late afternoon, and nighttime. But an enjoyable winter season despite the cold months of December to February. Sunrise is late, from 5:30 -6 a.m., and gets dark by 5 p.m., but with a clear, bright, starry night sky.

Brown Bear Trail offers an exciting destination at Nepal’s first National Park and the best in Asia. Chitwan National Park is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, enriched with exotic flora and fauna.

Chitwan is a district located in Nepal’s Mid-South region around the state of Narayani. It can be reached by overland from Kathmandu, approximately.
5 hours, or one can take a short flight. 

Chitwan and the national park are ideal destinations for an exciting holiday with leisure and adventure. In the past, it was a hunting ground for the royal family and foreign dignitaries. In 1973, it was declared a national park to protect and save various wildlife species from extinction. 

Chitwan Wildlife Safari takes you into the dense deep jungles, riding on an elephant back or a Jeep Safari. Visitors can observe various species of mammals, the most commonly seen being the four species of deer. It also includes the rare and endangered leopard, tiger, sloth bear, and rhinoceros, with wild bison known as Arna. Including more than 500 species of birds and reptiles, Chitwan is a perfect habitat for wildlife. 

For 2-3 days, wildlife programs are set by the hotel and the national parks authority. The nature or jungle walks, elephant bathing, and briefing with a dug-out canoe ride to observe crocodiles and river birds. 

At Chitwan Wildlife Safari, all age groups can enjoy the thrills of a jungle safari and various activities.  

Outline Itinerary:

Day 01: Drive to Chitwan-05 hrs. Approx. 180 km / 112 miles driving distance.
Day 02-03: Full day jungle activities, elephant safari, canoe ride, and nature walk.
Day 04: Morning drive back to Kathmandu.

Detailed itinerary:

Day 01: Drive to Chitwan-05 hrs. Approx. 180 km / 112 miles’ road distance.
After an early breakfast, our staff will pick you up for an interesting drive to Chitwan. The drive leads beyond Kathmandu Valley towards the end of the western rim, then heads downhill to lower warm farm country. 

The drive continues past villages and towns following the Trisuli River, a popular river for rafting. On reaching Mugling Bazaar, the drive diverts heading south towards the lowland of Terai. Experience the dramatic changes of landscapes and climate in a short distance with a 4-5-hour drive. Finally, the drive ends on reaching the main areas of Chitwan at Sauraha Town or nearby. Located close to the Chitwan National Park outskirts. Where all the good hotels and resorts are located, then check into the hotel. After being refreshed, the hotel manager or jungle guide briefs you about the programs and wildlife activities. 

The afternoon guide will lead you on a nature walk or visit the local Tharu villages. The hotel provides entertainment, either Tharu cultural programs or a slide show of wildlife before dinner. 

Day 02-03: Jungle activities, elephant safari, canoe ride, and nature walk.
These two days, you will be engrossed in nature and jungle activities.
The program starts before breakfast to join the other group of guests. 

The wildlife and nature activities are as follows:

7 am to 8 am. Nature walks or Machan visits (Observation Tower) to view wildlife and birds. Other options are Bird Watching or Elephant Safari in the heart of the jungle.

8:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. Breakfast and refresh yourself for a few hours.

10 a.m. until noon, an Elephant Bathing and briefing or Dug-Out Canoe ride on the Rapti River. Observe the water birds with two species of crocodiles, the Marsh Mugger and Gangetic Gharial. Chances of spotting some wild animals like deer, monkeys, wild boar, and other mammals and birds. 

01 p.m. Lunch in the main dining room, rest till the next program in the late afternoon. 

3 p.m. The afternoon tea, then get ready for another exciting jungle activity, like Jungle Walk, Jungle Drive, or Elephant Safari. On Safari, one can enjoy stunning Sunset views, and then head back to the hotel for refreshments until dinner time.
Evening Entertainment, either a Wildlife Slide Show or a Tharu Cultural program. 

Please note that all the above programs can differ due to the rules of the hotel management or the National Park Authority.  

Day 04: Drive to Kathmandu and transfer to the hotel.

The morning program for nature activities, or the Bird Watching, Tower / Machan visit for an hour. Having breakfast by 8:30 a.m. Depart from the hotel for an exciting drive back to Kathmandu on the same interesting highway. 

On arrival in Kathmandu, transfer to your hotel, and the rest of the afternoon is for individual activities. 

Please Note: Interested people can extend the wildlife tour for a few more days or a week, and Chitwan can be reached from Pokhara city. To reach Chitwan with options of
4-5 hour drive from Kathmandu, or a short 20-minute flight to Bharatpur Airport. On arrival at the airport, the hotel staff will take you for a short drive to the hotel close to the National Park boundary.

  • We have daily departures for this trip from March to May and from mid-September to mid-December. You can type in the number of passengers to book a reservation and select a date that is convenient for you. Due to group size, we never cancel a trip once you’ve made a reservation. If you would rather join the group, we will add more travelers on the selected date. You can let us know once you make a reservation or earlier.
