OVERVIEWS:
The highlights of Everest begin as soon as you step into the scenic and cultural areas of Solu-Khumbu. The districts of the Everest region, the Solu area, are located on the southern green hills. The Khumbu is in the higher northern areas and is close to Everest.
The Everest Region offers various exciting and overwhelming experiences of a lifetime. The most popular trek is around the upper Everest regions of the Khumbu area. Where trekkers will be walking in the close shadow of
Mt. Everest with an array of giant, staggering peaks.
The upper Khumbu provides excellent trekking routes, where trekkers can enjoy the comfort of a nice lodge with good food. The Khumbu region is more developed than southern Solu, catering to the needs and requirements of the trekkers and adventurers.
The Everest Region, located in Nepal’s Far North, is around the Mahalangur Himal range. Most major and higher peaks extend parallel in the north, forming the boundary between Tibet/ China and Nepal.
The main flow of trekkers and adventure seekers visits the higher Khumbu Valley of Everest. The Khumbu region provides the best destinations in the whole Himalayan range. The main flow of trekkers enjoys the trek to Everest base camp and the climb to the top of the scenic Kalapathar rocky ridge.
Other popular destinations are Gokyo Valley, including Everest Base Camp via Cho-La Pass. Everest Three High passes, moderate Everest Panorama trek to Tengboche, and various high-altitude adventures.
Everest Region is famous for mountaineering expeditions, climbing lesser peaks,
and trekking. The Everest region can be divided into two main areas, the lower Solu and the higher Khumbu.
The Khumbu region, with 90% Sherpa, and the Solu have mixed tribes of hill people. Trekkers who want to avoid the mainstream trekking trail can enjoy the treks around the Solu area.
The lower southern areas of Solu get fewer groups of trekkers than the high Khumbu regions.
THE HIGHER KHUMBU REGION OF EVEREST:
EVEREST BASE CAMP:
Everest base camp trekking is the most popular adventure destinations around Khumbu and the Himalayas. Thousands of trekkers visit the high Khumbu to Everest base camp, to stand beneath the towering south face of
Mt. Everest.
Everest Base Camp is the top priority on the bucket list for most worldwide travelers. All treks around the Khumbu and Everest regions start and end at Lukla Town. A busy place due to its famous small Tenzing & Hillary airport, a tribute to the legendary mountaineers. The first mountaineers to conquer
Mt. Everest on May 29th, 1953, with the British Expedition.
The trek begins from Lukla at 2,860 m and passes through Sherpa Villages adorned with religious and cultural heritages. Everest base camp trek takes you to the famous Namche Bazaar after trekking through the Sagarmatha National Park.
Namche Bazaar is the hub of the Khumbu Sherpa, as well as for the trekkers.
It is important for trekkers to have an extra day for acclimation at Namche Bazaar, 3,440 m high. Before, you set off towards higher ground and to Everest Base Camp. Namche Bazaar offers various scenic viewpoints for long and short day hiking to support acclimatization. The adventure to Everest Base Camp continues heading higher towards picturesque Tengboche, and its majestic monastery.
Tengboche is also a famous destination for a short and moderate trek where trekkers can enjoy the Everest Panorama. It is located amidst scenic surroundings of snow-capped peaks with pine and rhododendron forests.
From Tengboche onwards, the tree lines drop for sheer mountain wilderness, as the trail follows towards Pangboche village and Dingboche.
Most trekkers favor staying in Dingboche en route to Lobuche and Everest base camp, making Pheriche for the return journey.
Another extra night in Dingboche at 4,410 m high and around the scenic Imja Tse Valley. Beneath the towering Mt. Ama Dablam, with grand views of Island Peak, a popular trekking peak.
From Dingboche, the walk heads higher to Lobuche 4,928 m for overnight stops.
The next morning, walk to Everest base camp via Gorakshep 5,180 m.

The walk continues from Gorak Shep to Everest Base Camp, located at an altitude of 5,364 m. It is also the base of Mt. Lhotse, the world’s 4th highest peak stands beneath the massive Khumbu Icefall.
At base camp, Mt. Everest is enclosed by the peaks of Nuptse and Lhotse, but it is an exciting experience. On completing the major highlights of the journey, the next adventure is a steep climb up on top of Kalapathar. A rocky ridge and famous viewpoints around the Khumbu for close looks at Mt. Everest.
Kalapathar tops at 5,630 m, the highest point of the adventure, overlooking an awesome panorama of the gigantic snow mountain ranges.
The adventure to Everest base camp concludes on the same route towards Namche Bazaar via Pheriche settlement. Then, back at Lukla for the last overnight halt, the next early morning, a sweeping scenic flight brings you to Kathmandu.
GOKYO VALLEY OF LAKES:
Gokyo Valley Trekking leads to higher Khumbu within the Everest region and Sagarmatha National Park. The world’s highest park, enriched with exotic flora and fauna, is also a World Heritage Site. This makes the Gokyo Valley Trek more interesting and exciting. Gokyo Valley is quite different and unique from other Himalayan destinations, taking you amidst picturesque locations.
Truly a paradise for adventurers, trekkers, and photographers, the Gokyo Valley offers scenic views of beautiful glacial lakes. The Gokyo Valley is enclosed by towering snow-capped peaks and close to the world’s 6th highest Mt. Cho Oyu. Gokyo Valley starts from Lukla, like other popular treks to Namche Bazaar.
After Namche Bazaar, the trail diverts from the mainstream towards the beautiful Gokyo Valley. Gokyo Valley is 4,800 meters high, between the two major passes of Cho-La and Renjo-La, with a high scenic viewpoint, Gokyo-Ri at 5,357 m.
From Gokyo-Ri, trekkers can enjoy the panorama of Gokyo Valley with the surrounding snow mountain ranges. Gokyo-Ri offers fantastic views of the world’s
four highest peaks, Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Makalu and Cho Oyu.
After an exciting time at Gokyo Valley, trekkers can extend the adventure to Everest Base Camp. Crossing over Cho-La pass 5,420 m, or one can traverse Renjo-La 5,360 m high pass. The walk leads west of Namche Bazaar at quaint Thame Village and continues to Lukla through Namche Bazaar.
Trekkers can enjoy the walk on the same route towards Namche Bazaar to reach Lukla.
ADVENTURES AROUND KHUMBU REGIONS:
Besides the main scenic adventure destinations, Tengboche Monastery, Everest Base Camp, and Gokyo Valley. The high areas of Khumbu offer more exciting adventures: The Three Passes of Everest. Crossing above 5,000 meters passes over Khongma-La, Cho-La, and Renjo-La. Includes visits to Everest base camp, Gokyo Valley, and Thame Village in just one adventure.
The other exciting adventure is crossing over the Amphu-Labtsa-La pass at
5,845 m high. Other adventures around the high Khumbu region, climbing trekking peaks like the famous and popular Island Peak. Mera Peak, Lobuche East Peaks. The trekking peaks are above 6,000 m or below 5,600 m.
ADVENTURE AROUND SOLU, THE SOUTHERN REGIONS OF EVEREST:
The adventure around the lower Solu areas of the southern Everest region,
where the flow of trekkers is less than in Khumbu.
The Solu area offers some of the most exciting scenic viewpoints like the Pikey Peak. The southern region of Everest leads to interesting trekking. In the early days, most trekking and mountaineering began from Solu. The classic route from Jiri town was the original trail to Everest Base Camp and around the high Khumbu. Before Lukla airport was built, all trekkers walked from Jiri through Solu to reach higher areas of Khumbu and Everest.
The other route was from Arun Valley east of Solu and Everest regions, the trek followed from a lower sub-tropical climate. Heading towards cooler alpine hills to the high Khumbu and Everest areas, interested trekkers can enjoy the walk around Solu. It is one of the best treks, especially for people who want to avoid the mass flow of trekkers. Trekkers can enjoy pleasant walks around Solu and experience the local cultures of different hill tribes.
The most popular trekking at present is the Pikey Peak, which is at above
4,065 m or 13,336 feet high. Pikey Peak a week trek, an exciting short and moderate adventure walking through lovely farm villages. The trek leads through a beautiful forest of pines and rhododendron trees to reach the top of Pikey Peak.
From Pikey Peak, a fabulous panorama of the Himalayan ranges of peaks includes Everest, Lhotse and Makalu as far as Kanchenjunga. After a wonderful scenic moment on top of Pikey Peak, trekkers can continue the adventure towards high Khumbu. As well as head back to Kathmandu with a long and exciting journey on a four-wheel drive.
