OVERVIEWS:

Langtang Valley and the Central Himalayan Regions capture towering Himalayan ranges of Ganesh, Langtang, and Jugal Himal. Langtang Valley and the Central Himalayas are among the most exciting adventures of a lifetime. Langtang Valley and the Central Himalayas are the closest snow-capped mountain range to Kathmandu city and the valley. 

On a clear day, the whole range of the Central Himalaya can be viewed from Kathmandu Valley. The Langtang Valley and Central Himalayan regions lead to exciting adventures from the mid-hills and towards glaciated valleys. Langtang Valley and the Central Himalayan ranges also form the boundaries between Nepal and Tibet-China.

The Langtang & Central Mountain ranges are the glacial sources of great and mighty rivers. Likewise, the Trisuli, Melamche, Bhote, and Sunkoshi rivers later join the great Ganges in India. 

The Langtang Valley and Central Himalayan Regions stretch from Nepal’s Mid-West to the Mid-East Himalayas. Some of these areas are the least explored and visited by the main influx of trekkers.

Langtang Valley is a more popular trekking destination than other regions of Langtang and the Central Himalayas. 

The Langtang and Central Himalayas provide various exciting
adventure destinations. Include the mainstream to Langtang Valley, and the Gosainkunda route. As well as towards undisturbed and hidden areas of Langtang and the Central Himalayas. 

LANGTANG VALLEY:

Langtang Valley is located within the massive ranges of the Langtang Himalaya in the district of Rasuwa. It is situated between the Jugal Himal in the east and the Ganesh Himal towards the west.
As well as close to Nepal and the Tibet-China border in the north.
The Langtang Himal range runs parallel between these borders and ends at Langshisha Peak close to the Jugal Himal range.
Langtang Valley and its surroundings are protected by Langtang National Park, an area of 1,710 sq. km.

The first park around the high Himalayas in Nepal was established in 1976. The Langtang National Park is enriched with rare exotic flora and fauna. 

Langtang Valley is the third popular trek in Nepal after the Annapurna and Everest regions. Trekkers can enjoy the Langtang Valley in a week-long tour around the picturesque Langtang Valley at Kyanjin Gompa. 

Located amidst scenic surroundings at 3,810 m / 10,531 feet high. Trekkers can enjoy the gorgeous views of the snow-capped peaks in the comfort of a nice lodge. 

Langtang Valley offers two scenic viewpoints, Kyanjin-Ri at 4,773 m / 15,660 feet and Tserko-Ri at 5,033 m/16,512 feet.

From these high ridges of Kyanjin-Ri and Tserko-Ri, enjoy the panorama of Ganesh Himal (7,405 m) and Langtang Lirung (7,234 m).

Includes peaks of Ghengu Liru or Langtang II (6,571m / 21,560ft), Kimshun (6,745m), and Shalbachum (6,918 m) to the south.
Includes views of Naya-Kanga (5,846m), Gangchenpo with Tillman’s beautiful Fluted Peak. Facing east with Jugal Himal, then terminates at Dorje Lakpa (6,980m), with mountains across the border in Tibet. 

The Langtang Valley Trek covers approximately. 65 km / 40 miles. From the start to the end of the trek from Syabrubesi to Syabrubesi. Excludes mileage on extra optional hikes to Kyanjin-Ri or Tserko-Ri. An exciting trekking destination for a week round trip with drives from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi and vice versa.

LANGTANG VALLEY & GOSAINKUNDA TREKKING:

The next popular adventure destination around Langtang and the Central Himalaya is Gosainkunda. The trek takes you to 4,381 m / 14,375 feet high at Gosainkunda, and its crystal clear glacier lake.
The Gosainkunda and its surroundings are regarded as a holy site for all Hindus, and an annual religious festival is held.

Thousands of pilgrims and devotees pay homage for worship and a dip in the cold lake. The belief is that it relinquishes the sins of a hundred lifetimes. This event is called “Jani-Purnima,” which literally translates as the changing of holy threads on the full moon by Hindu males.
It falls around the middle of the monsoon times of August as per the Hindu Lunar Calendar on an auspicious day.    

After Gosainkunda, there are several options, depending on one’s interests and duration in Nepal.
The short route of less than a week starts from Dhunche at 1,950 m, the headquarters town of Rasuwa district.   

After driving for 5-6 hours from Kathmandu, the morning walk leads across a small bridge. The climb through a lovely forest of rhododendrons, pines, and fir trees to Sing Gompa/Chandanbari is a small settlement. 

Located at 3,254 m, a perfect spot for a sweeping panorama of Langtang, Jugal Himal in the east. Includes views of Ganesh and Manaslu Himal, as far as the Annapurna Himalayas in the far west.
The climb continues the next morning with stunning views of the Himalayan peaks to enter a cool, serene forest.

Leaving the forest and tall trees, a steep climb takes you to the top of Laurabinaya. Enjoy the incredible panorama of the Central Himalayan ranges, as far as the Annapurna Himal in the western horizon. 

The walk then enters the holy site of Gosainkunda. The trail leads past Bhairab Kunda Lake and a short climb to Gosainkunda glacial lake. It is situated in a basin enclosed by towering, rocky, and snow-capped peaks amidst tranquil surroundings. Gosainkunda at 4,381 m / 14,375 feet. It provides a few smaller guest houses for the travelers. 

From Gosainkunda, walk downhill to Dhunche via Sing Gompa or climb over East Laurabinaya-La or Gosainkunda Pass. 

The pass is 4,609 m /15,100 feet, and leads east towards the Helambu area. The walk continues towards the eastern rim of Kathmandu Valley at Sundarijal via the scenic ridge of Chisapani. 

The next option is to enjoy the trek to Langtang Valley.
The route leads down to Upper Syabru via Sing Gompa, and then reaches the main trail towards Langtang Valley. 
The lovely settlement of Kyanjin Gompa is located at 4,773 m on the western end of scenic Langtang Valley. 

It is a great place to spend at least two nights in the comfort of a nice cozy lodge. Enjoy your stay in rooms with glorious views and explore the picturesque Langtang Valley. From Kyanjin Gompa, walk downhill for two days to reach Syabrubesi Town, for an exciting drive to Kathmandu. 

MORE EXCITING DESTINATIONS FOR INTERESTED TREKKERS:

Around Langtang and the Central Himalayan ranges, besides the major and popular adventure destinations, like Langtang Valley and Gosainkunda treks. Adventurers and trekkers interested in off-the-beaten tracks can enjoy trekking around the Tamang Heritage Trail. 

The Tamang Heritage Trail is a week-long trek that takes you to interesting traditional Tamang Villages. Trekkers can experience ancient cultures of age-old heritage in a serene and scenic environment.

The treks lead you from lovely farm villages to another, then head close to the Nepal and Tibet borders. The route climbs up to Nagethali Hill at
3,165 m / 10,384 feet high. From the top of Nagethali, enjoy the fascinating panorama of the Langtang and Central Himalaya ranges. Include a grand vista across the borders of Nepal and Tibet with tiers of rolling green hills.    

The Tamang Heritage Trail starts and ends at Syabrubesi. It includes drives both ways to and from Kathmandu.

The next adventurous trek is Langtang Valley and Ganja-La Pass at 5,122 m. The trek begins from Syabrubesi, after an exciting drive from Kathmandu, the route follows into a river gorge. Walking through several settlements surrounded by dense rhododendrons and pine forest. To reach the wide scenic Langtang Valley at Kyanjin Gompa for two nights. 

At Kyanjin Gompa, enjoy an extra day for acclimatization and explore around its scenic viewpoints, Kyanjin and Tserko-Ri. From Kyanjin leaving the mainstream route, the walk follows off-the-beaten trails with a climb towards Ganja-La Pass. Located close to Naya Kanga 5,844 m/19,164 feet, also called Ganjala Peak. 

From the last camp at Keldang, climb to the top of Ganja-La Pass, then descend towards the Helambu region. A fixed rope is required for the steep descent, and requires camping equipment and food for
2-3 overnights. After a great traverse from Langtang Valley to Helambu via Ganja-La Pass, reaching the eastern sides of Langtang & Central Himalaya. Enjoy the exciting and beautiful villages of Tarke Gyang at 2,740 m and Sermathang at 2,621 m.   

The Helambu area is located close in the shadow of the Jugal Himal ranges, east of Kathmandu. It is an interesting place to explore amidst the colorful Buddhist Cultures of Helambu. From Tarke Gyang or Sermathang, drive back to Kathmandu, after two weeks of great adventures around Langtang and Ganjala trek to Helambu.

The next great adventure around Langtang Valley & Central Himalayan ranges is crossing Tillman’s Col at 5,308 m, which forms a barrier between Panch Pokhari and Langtang Valley. 

An early explorer, Bill Tilman, was the first Westerner to visit and cross the hidden and unknown pass. In the mid-1950s, the pass was named after Bill Tilman. Who pioneered the route in search of a new route to Tibet from Panch Pokhari and Langtang Valley?

An exciting adventure to explore amidst absolute mountain wilderness. Adventure to Tillman’s Col and Panch Pokhari takes you to the end of the Langtang Valley. Heading close towards Langshisha-Ri and Jugal Himal, after Kyanjin Gompa, spending overnight in a tented camp. 

The adventure from Langtang Valley takes you to another beautiful valley at Panch Pokhari. Located in the close shadows of Langtang and Jugal Himal with serene 5 smaller ponds, hence it is called Panch Pokhari. 

The adventure takes about two weeks to Panch Pokhari, starting first east of Kathmandu. The next option is to drive to Rasuwa district at Syabrubesi and trek to Langtang Valley. Then cross over Tilman Col to reach Panch Pokhari, finally the walk ends with a drive to Kathmandu.
