    Manaslu Circuit Trek

This was my first visit of Nepal and Asia at all.
With my friend Marek we did Tsum Valley and Manaslu Circuit Trek.
It was wonderful experience with nice views and beautiful nature. We are happy that had Shekhar Rayamajhi as our guide during our trek. We carried all our things by ourselves and before beginning of our trek
Shekar explained to us what we need and what not. He is very friendly, helpful, experienced and with good physical condition.
If I will have again chance to do some treks in Himalayas I will definitely contact him.
Again THANK You Shekar for nice time spent in the mountains and guiding us.

FAQs
  • The Manaslu Circuit Trek is a stunning journey through the diverse landscapes of Nepal, offering trekkers a chance to experience remote villages, beautiful forests, and majestic mountain views, including the towering Manaslu Peak (8,163 meters). Its popularity lies in its untouched beauty, cultural richness, and being less crowded than other trekking routes like Everest or Annapurna. Located in the Gorkha region of Nepal, it offers trekkers a peaceful and unique adventure in the heart of the Himalayas.

  • The Manaslu Circuit Trek typically takes around 14 days to complete, depending on the itinerary and acclimatization. It covers a distance of approximately 177 kilometers (110 miles), starting from the town of Soti Khola and gradually ascending to the Larkya La Pass at 5,160 meters. The trek is a beautiful blend of cultural exploration, diverse landscapes, and breathtaking mountain vistas, making every step a memorable experience.

  • The 14-day Manaslu Circuit Trek can be suitable for beginners if they are in good health and prepared for moderate physical challenges. While it’s not an extreme trek, a basic fitness level is required, as the route involves long days of walking, steep ascents, and high altitudes. With proper training, acclimatization, and a gradual pace, beginners can enjoy this trek. However, it’s essential to be mentally prepared and have a good sense of endurance to fully enjoy this beautiful adventure.

  • The best time for the Manaslu Circuit Trek is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) seasons. These months offer clear skies, mild temperatures, and stunning views of the Himalayan peaks. While the trek can technically be done in the monsoon or winter, it’s not recommended. Monsoon season (June to August) brings heavy rain and slippery trails, while winter (December to February) can be harsh with snow and cold temperatures, making some parts of the trek inaccessible.

  • The Manaslu Circuit Trek requires a restricted area permit (Manaslu RAP), an Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP), and a Trekkers’ Information Management System (TIMS) card. These permits are necessary due to the region’s status as a restricted area. To obtain them, you must apply through a registered trekking agency in Nepal. The agency will arrange and process all necessary paperwork, including the permits, and ensure that you are trekking within the legal boundaries of the area.

  • The Manaslu Circuit Trek begins in Soti Khola and ends in Besi Sahar, after crossing the Larkya La Pass at 5,160 meters. The route offers breathtaking views of Manaslu, Himchuli, and other peaks, along with a rich cultural experience. Key highlights include crossing the Larkya La Pass, visiting monasteries, exploring the villages of Sama Gaon and Samdo, and trekking through lush forests and high-altitude deserts. The trek also offers an immersive experience of the diverse cultures and landscapes of the Manaslu region.

  • The highest point of the Manaslu Circuit Trek is Larkya La Pass, standing at 5,160 meters (16,929 feet). Crossing this pass is an incredible adventure, offering both a physical challenge and a sense of achievement. The trail is often snowy, and the weather can be unpredictable, making it essential to be well-prepared. Once at the top, the stunning panoramic views of the Manaslu range and surrounding peaks leave you in awe, making the tough journey absolutely worthwhile.

  • On average, you’ll trek for 5 to 7 hours each day, depending on the altitude and distance. The weather in lower areas is usually mild, but it becomes colder as you ascend. By the time you reach Larkya La Pass, the temperature drops drastically, often accompanied by snow and strong winds, especially in the winter. The dramatic change in weather highlights the importance of packing well and adjusting to the altitude gradually to stay comfortable and safe during the trek.

  • If the weather turns bad, particularly around Larkya La Pass, delays are possible, so patience is key. Safety precautions are crucial: bring warm, waterproof clothing to stay dry and comfortable, trek with a licensed guide who can make sound decisions based on weather conditions, carry enough food and water, and have a shelter plan in case of emergencies. Having a satellite phone can also be a lifesaver in extreme weather, ensuring you can call for help if needed.

  • Altitude sickness is a concern on the Manaslu Circuit Trek, especially near Larkya La Pass. Symptoms include dizziness, headache, nausea, and shortness of breath. To prevent it, ascend gradually and take rest days to allow your body to acclimatize. Stay hydrated and avoid overexertion. If you feel any symptoms, it’s important to rest and descend if necessary. Listening to your body is essential, as early detection and proper management are key to preventing serious complications

  • Acclimatizing is essential to ensure a safe and enjoyable trek. On the Manaslu Circuit, the gradual ascent and rest days are designed to help your body adjust to the altitude. Mentally, stay positive, focused, and ready to embrace the challenge. Physically, engage in cardio, strength training, and regular hill walks beforehand to build stamina. These preparations will not only help your body adjust but also enhance your overall trekking experience, making the journey more enjoyable and rewarding.

  • Trekkers can enjoy a variety of food options, typically including local Nepali dishes such as dal bhat (lentil soup with rice), momos (dumplings), Tibetan-style dishes like thukpa (noodle soup) and tsampa (roasted barley flour), as well as some Western items. Tea houses along the route offer these meals, catering to different dietary preferences. Health clinics are available along the routes for basic medication, and emergency evacuation options are provided. Trekkers are advised to carry their own medication. Support from well-trained guides and porters ensures safety and assistance throughout the journey.

  • While there are charging facilities at most teahouses, a small fee is typically required in some places. Some places offer Wi-Fi, though the signal can be unreliable. ATMs are not available on the trek, so it’s essential to bring enough cash for your expenses. To stay connected with loved ones, you can use satellite phones or rely on Wi-Fi where it’s available. Managing cash and communication in advance will ensure you have a smooth and connected journey.

  • No technical climbing skills are necessary for the Manaslu Circuit Trek, but it does require good fitness and stamina. Essential packing items include warm clothing for cold weather, especially for Larkya La Pass, comfortable trekking boots, a sleeping bag, and a reliable backpack. Don’t forget the water purification tablets, high-altitude medication, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat. Preparing your gear will ensure you’re well-equipped to handle the trek’s challenges and enjoy the stunning landscapes.

  • The trek takes you through Tibetan-influenced villages, where Buddhist customs are integral to daily life. Always ask permission before taking photos, particularly of people and religious sites. When visiting monasteries, remove your hat and remain respectful and quiet. Respecting local traditions, understanding the significance of sacred places, and caring for the environment are important aspects of the trek. Embracing these customs will not only enrich your experience but also foster a deeper connection with the culture and people along the trail.
