Markha Valley to Tsokar & Rumtse Trekking, quite different routes than other main popular trekking areas. This adventure takes you off the beaten tracks, away from human habitation and villages for some days. Walking into the pure mountain wilderness, around the region of nomadic Chang-Pa tribes, an exciting trek around remote pockets of Ladakh.
The trek starts after an exciting tour of famous religious and historical sites around Leh and beyond. Enjoy the former Shey palace fort, Thiksey, and Hemis Monasteries one of the most oldest and important religious monuments.
Where drive takes you for a tour of Lamayuru and Alchi Gompas, another great monastery of great religious importance. As well to get in with Ladakh rural country farm life enriched with colorful culture and custom.
A great way to experience the local culture of age-old heritage as well for acclimatization at above 3,000 m high. After a wonderful time around Leh,
the adventure begins heading towards Markha valley to the Stok area, starting the trek to Zingchen. A small village located south of Indus River and not far from Spituk village, on the oldest trekking trail. Following the ancient Trans Himalaya caravan route of Far North-Western Himalaya range, around remote corners of
Markha valley.
The aim and goal of this adventurous trek are to explore the wildest region of Ladakh, visiting isolated settlements. In the country of the oldest nomadic tribe the Chang-Pa cattle herders areas around Changtang valley via Stok-La 4,900 m.
Where walk continues around windswept terrain to Sku crossing Ganda-La Pass to reach Markha. From Markha on the high trail to Rumtse towards high passes of Zalung Karpo-La, Shibuk-La, and Mandalchan-La to Rumtse town.
Finally reaching Rumtse to end the adventure, after crossing the last Khymar-La pass, and then driving back to Leh. An interesting high altitude Markha Valley to Stoker and Rumtse trekking, various ways to start and end this marvelous walk.

Best seasons for Markha Valley to Tsokar & Rumtse Trekking:
The best time for Markha Valley to Tsokar & Rumtse Trekking is from late spring to early autumn seasons, late spring April and May, and autumn/fall begins from September to October months.
April & May are fine clear days most of the time, with longer sun-light hours but can get overcast in the late afternoon with chances of snow sometimes. Autumn / Falls another best time for the climb and tour of Ladakh with a fine clear day. But days are short with sunlight hours can be freezing cold, especially in the morning, and night times will be clear with bright starry nights. Chances of snowfall during the climb.
For interested people can visit Ladakh for a tour and trekking during summer times of June to August, which is a wet monsoon season also. But Ladakh falls within a rain shadow area, where monsoon dark rain clouds are blocked by the great Himalayas. That is why Ladakh most areas are drier with fewer rains and moisture.
Religion and Culture:
Ladakh and the North West Himalaya are populated by Ladakhi people descendants of a mixed tribal race of Mons of North India, and Dards of Baltistan with Mongols of Central Asia. History shows the Mons were the first immigrants, followed by Dards who founded different settlements in the Indus valley. Follows strong Buddhism religion and culture similar to Tibetan culture of ancient Buddhism heritage with many monasteries of great religious significance.
