Best seasons for Solu to Everest Base Camp Trekking:

The best time for this wonderful adventure is from spring and autumn to the pre-winter seasons. Spring seasons start from March to May, and autumn/fall begins from September to November months. Can visit during the pre-winter time also in early December where days are clear, but cold morning and night time.

Springtime from March to May is lively with wildflowers in seasonal bloom, especially the rhododendrons and orchids of various species.

On this trek, visitors will experience during flowering times on high hills of Salpa, till Tengboche Monastery during March to May.

In the spring season, most days are fine and with longer sun-light hours, but can get an overcast late afternoon with chances of snow sometimes on high altitude, as well on passes.

Autumn / fall from September to November is another best time for this trek with fine days, clear blue sky for views and walks. But days are shorter due to sun-light hours, temperatures drop to a cold morning, late afternoon, and nighttime around higher elevation, but clear starry nights. Chances of snow on tracks above 2,000 m as well on passes.

Religion and Culture:

Starting from Diktel around the Khotang areas, the mid-hills of eastern Nepal populated with mixed tribes, mostly Kirat Rai few Gurung, Magar, and Tamang with Hindu Chettries and Brahmins as well Sherpa.

The mid-hills villagers around Khotang and the lower area of Solu the Kirat Rai follow Hindu religion and culture, and from Panggom onwards entering Sherpa country with a strong culture of Buddhism religion.

Solu to Everest Base Camp Trekking, an adventure that takes you to experience fresh and raw areas of eastern Nepal. Where trek continues to the high valley of Khumbu, then at the base camp of the world’s highest peaks Mt. Everest.

Solu to Everest Base Camp Trekking begins from Kathmandu taking an overland journey to the eastern part of Nepal. Then arriving around farm hill country and villages and the town of Khotang at Diktel, the starting point of the trek.

 

The first phase of the walk takes you past several rural villages, where local people hardly come across outside visitors. As the walk proceeds heading towards Salpa pass covered in dense rhododendron and pine trees offers a grand vista of Khumbu peaks. Near the pass lies a small pond with the name Salpa Pokhari, from the top downhill to Sonam and Guidel villages.

 

A great change as walk leads around the human settlements after being in the complete wilderness for some days. Adventures continue heading higher to cross a small ridge and into a narrow gorge to a river. The climb leads to a Sherpa village of Panggom, encountering Buddhist monuments with prayer flags from here onwards to the Khumbu area. In the land of Sherpa’s the highlanders of Eastern Himalayas, then walking on the main trail of Jiri and Phaplu. Treks follow on the high road of the Everest region, coming across many trekkers on the trail to Everest Base Camp.

 

On reaching the mainstream trail, where the route follows past nice villages witness the strong Buddhist culture. A walk leads to a slow climb on entering Sagarmatha National Park towards the famous Namche Bazaar, the Sherpa capital of Khumbu.

 

Spending an extra day at Namche is a perfect place for acclimatization, as well as for a short hike to scenic viewpoints. At Namche, Bazaar trekkers can enjoy various facilities like banks, nice hotels, restaurants, bakeries with well-stocked shops and stores. From Namche Bazaar our true adventure begins heading higher on a scenic trail facing views of grand giant peaks. Journey follows to Tengboche a beautiful spot for a super panorama of Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam with an array of peaks.

 

Enjoy a tour of its impressive monastery located amidst beautiful forest surroundings, and then towards mountain wilderness. The walk climbs to high dry and arid terrain as tree lines drop after Tengboche then reaching scenic Imjatse valley. Where Dingboche is located in a moderate settlement with many good lodges facing views of Ama Dablam North Face and Island Peak.

 

From Dingboche adventure continues towards the end of beautiful Imjatse valley at Chukung the last settlement east of Khumbu. After Chukung heading towards Kongma-La, a 5,535 m high pass, the toughest and long day trek of the adventure.

 

The pass is well hidden by a great wall of Nuptse and Lhotse mountains with Pokalde and Mehra or Kongma peaks. The top of the pass is marked with a cairn of rocks and prayer flags, from here down to the Khumbu glacier. After walking through the glaciated path then at Lobuche on route to Everest base camp, Lobuche with a number of nice lodges.

 

Spending overnight at Lobuche, the adventure leads to our final destination at Everest Base Camp, a walkover moraine and glaciers. On achieving our goal and major highlight on reaching Everest base camp, enjoy stupendous views of giant towering peaks. Overlooking massive Khumbu Ice-Fall and glaciers that flow from the world’s highest Mt. Everest and Mt. Lhotse.

 

Everest base camp is livelier during March to May when mountaineering expeditions are active, after a great wonderful experience. Return journey back to Lobuche with downhill to Pangboche village, our route diverts from the main trail to Phortse. A nice and sleepy farm village situated above Dudh Kosi River, where few trekkers seldom pass through this quaint village.

 

After a lovely pleasant overnight at Phortse village, the adventure continues towards another lovely Khumjung village, located on a glacial valley. From here back to Namche Bazaar, then downhill to Dudh Kosi River following the river to Phakding and beyond. As the walk continues to Lukla for the last overnight around the high Khumbu and Everest region, at Lukla our adventure completes.

On arrival at Kathmandu and Nepal International Airport, received by our guides and staff for short transfer to your hotels in the hub of Kathmandu city.

Checking your lovely room, and after a refreshing rest join with other members of Solu to Everest Base Camp Trekking. Our guide or group leader brief you about the treks, do’s and don’ts, local culture, as well camping, foods and of lodges on route trek.

A full good information which will help to enjoy your adventure with us, followed with welcome group dinner in a Nepalese restaurant with folk-culture program as entertainment while you enjoy the dinner.

Morning after breakfast at given time, our city guide will meet for interesting sightseeing of best world heritage sites around Kathmandu.

Tour includes old Durbar (royal palace and courtyard) square, with Temple of Kumari (Living young virgin Goddess). Visit famous Nepal landmark Swayambhunath Stupa a 2,500 years old, a Buddhist Stupa with all seeing eyes of Lord Buddha. Afternoon tour of holy Hindu Temple of Pashupatinath and visit Bouddhanath, Asia’s largest Stupa with four cardinals eyes of Buddha surrounded with prayer wheels and small market, this place is also known as Little Tibet due to strong Tibetan influence.

After an exciting day tour back to hotel for Solu to Everest Base Camp Trek preparation and last minute briefing from your leader and guide.

An early morning start for a long drive after having a quick breakfast, a bus or on
four wheelers. As per size of a group, along with trekking staff, guide and porters
an overland journey to Eastern Nepal and southern areas of Everest.
Drive follows on main highway towards Dhulikhel town and then heading due
south on winding good road. Journey continues past town and farm villages, as
drive diverts to east direction towards rural farm areas.

After a long hour of drive with refreshing stops in between, then finally journey
enter around Khotang district at Diktel. The main town of the area arriving in late
afternoon or evening time, transfer into a nice simple local lodge.

Morning after a pleasant overnight in Diktel, our adventure begins heading due
north east, on leaving the main market of Diktel town. As route leads on gradual
winding path, entering into temperate and rain forest past farm villages to reach
our first overnight camp. From here air gets cooler within fresh country
surroundings on route to Chakhewa Bhanjyang.

Our target for first few days walk is to Chakhe Bhanjyang reaching on the main
trail towards Solu region. After clearing and packing the camp, following forest
path past smaller settlements and farm land with few short climb and down to
overnight stop with camping, around a small clearing within tall tree lines where
our tented camp is set.

Today walks finally reaches to our target destination on the high hill of Chakhewa
Bhanjyang, as climb continues uphill heading on steep slope for some hour in the
cool shade of lovely alpine forest, then ending our day walk on reaching a
Chakhewa Bhanjyang. From the campsite enjoy fabulous scenery of rolling hills
with distant snow peaks towards north.

From Chakhewa Bhanjyang, our adventure starts on Mundum High Trail walking past smaller farm villages, and well-tended terraces of various crops growing from wheat, barley to buck-wheat and seasonal vegetables. Trek continues on high ridges of Mundum facing grand scenery of surrounding beautiful landscapes as well of snow peaks. Then slowly trail leads uphill into cool shade of pine and rhododendron forest to reach a high ridge, then descend for overnight in a small farm village. Overnight in tented camps, with all meals cooked and served by our expert camping cook and kitchen staff.

Start the morning from Dhotre on nice scenic path following the Mundum ridges and into nice forested area, from here onward walking into complete wilderness away from farm villages for few days. As walk come across few cattle herder temporary shelter around summer grazing area to Maiyum for overnight camp.
Located on an open grassy field amidst forest surroundings and close to Hans Pokhari, which is an hour walk from the camp.

From this isolated spot starts with short up to reach a small clear pond called Hans Pokhari, where trail from Pakhuwa Bhanjyang joins which is an alternative route from Bhojpur town. The name Hans Pokhari means a place for migratory ducks that often makes a temporary habilitation. From here after refreshing stop climb to a steep hill for some hours to Satdobato at 3,122 m high, means a junction of seven path, and then a short walk to Hykule for overnight stop on a nice grassy meadow.

After a pleasant overnight stop at Hykule, in the midst of Mundum high ridges, morning walk from here leads near towards Salpa Pass or Bhanjyang as called by all Nepalese. Walk on high ridges into beautiful shade of rhododendron and pine forest past several temporary shelters of cattle herder camp to Rawa-Dhap.
One of the highest spot for overnight camping after walking past a small hill of Lauribina with ups and down to reach a lovely place at Rawa-Dhap.

Morning walk leads uphill most of the way into bamboo and rhododendron forest, on leaving the very end of Mundum ridge as climb lead above within cool area close to Salpa Pass. Climb continues into forested areas past cattle herder temporary camp then end the day at Guranse for overnight stop.

After overnight around tranquil surrounding of dense forest, start the morning walk with short climb to the top of Salpa pass at 3,349 m high, the pass is marked with a large Chorten, a Buddhist monument. Enjoy views of Numbur snow peaks and Khumbu Himal. From the pass a short walk take you to glacial pond, and then continue downhill to Sonam village, inhabited mostly by Sherpa tribe.

As walk continues on gradual winding path to a large farm village at Guidel for overnight stop. From here onward entering within the district of Solu-Khumbu the southern area of Everest, this village populated by Rai people of Kirat the mid-hill tribe of eastern Nepal.

From Guidel a large farm village, morning walk to a bridge and climb to reach another large village of Bung as climb continues through rice terraces, exclusively populated by Rai people. On leaving Bung an hour climb to Khiralule for overnight camp looking down towards Guidel and Bung villages.

After a pleasant stop at Khiraule, walk leads with uphill climb away from villages and into cool forested areas of rhododendron, pines, oaks and hemlock then reaching Surkhe-La or Ghai-Kharka pass within small narrow gorge in dense green vegetation. From the top a steep descend to Ghai-Kharka for overnight camp around small farm area, at present few simple huts exists serves as lodge and tea-shops.

Morning after breakfast a short descend to cross Hinku Khola and then steep ascent to Kharte, a small village populated with Sherpa. From here on gradual winding path all the way to a large Sherpa village at Pangbung for overnight an interesting village steeped with Buddhist culture.

After a pleasant stop at Khiraule, walk leads with uphill climb away from villages and into cool forested areas of rhododendron, pines, oaks and hemlock then reaching Surkhe-La or Ghai-Kharka pass within small narrow gorge in dense green vegetation. From the top a steep descend to Ghai-Kharka for overnight camp around small farm area, at present few simple huts exists serves as lodge and tea-shops.

Morning after breakfast a short descend to cross Hinku Khola and then steep ascent to Kharte, a small village populated with Sherpa. From here on gradual winding path all the way to a large Sherpa village at Pangbung for overnight an interesting village steeped with Buddhist culture.

From Pangbong a slow and steady walk reaches high Khumbu area where the temperature gets cooler as the walk continues through mixed alpine forest.
Walk leads over Kharte Dande pass at 3,880m high, way above Dudh Kosi River and then reaching at Puiyan (Paya) village at 2,800 m high a nice place in the midst of forest.
From Puiyan after having lunch leading on a winding trail with views of Lukla town and its airstrip, then descends to Surkhe village for overnight stop in Khumbu area.

Morning walk leads close to Lukla on reaching at Choplung village, where trail from Lukla and Jiri joins, from here to Phakding for overnight stop after walking past villages and farm lands then reaching Phakding village near to Dudh Kosi River.

Today walk to famous Namche Bazaar following Dudh Kosi River and crossing over
a bridge to Monjo village then enter Sagarmatha National Park, a name for
Everest in Nepal, Sherpa knows as Chomolungma, from here into river valley
within forested area.

From the river bed climb starts to cross a last high bridge, and then on winding
and scenic trail to Namche Bazaar a place with nice hotels, lodges with many
shops and stores as well banks and ATM facilities with views of snow peaks.

Enjoy rest day on this lovely place at Namche, the free day for acclimatization
before heading towards higher altitude. Various places and view-points for short
as well visit the museum, situated on a hill top above Namche Bazaar offers grand
views of Everest, Amadablam, Kwangde, with Thermasarkhu and range of peaks.

After Namche having good time with pleasant rest day, morning begins with short
climb and then on scenic winding trail facing views of Everest, Lhotse and Nuptse
with majestic Ama Dablam, then down to Imjatse River for lunch stop.

Afternoon few hours climb into cool shade of rhododendron, pines, magnolia,
blue pines, juniper and silver fir forest to reach scenic and beautiful Tengboche
surrounded by high peaks facing views of Everest.

At Tengboche for overnight stop with tour of impressive monastery an interesting
Interior to observe young monks and priest in religious activities, the monastery
stands in the close shadow of Everest and Ama Dablam.

Morning enjoy view of Everest and adjoining peaks with Ama Dablam start walk downhill to a river, after the bridge a slow climb to Pangboche village with close views of Ama Dablam peak, walk continues towards scenic Imjatse Valley for overnight stop in Dingboche, located beneath North Face of Ama Dablam with grand view of Island peak.

Today a short scenic walk to Chukung, on leaving Dingboche heading east close to Island Peak, as route leads with gradual ups and short descend crossing few icy streams facing grand views of mountain range that surrounds Imjatse valley.
Finally ending the morning walk on reaching Chukung for lunch and overnight stop, a small settlement with number of lodges, located on route to Island Peak base camp and Kongma-la pass.
Afternoon at leisure or take a hike up to Chukung Ri a view point hill top at
4,900 m high offers stunning panorama of surrounding high peaks.

After pleasant at Chukung, an early morning start having breakfast and then for long walk to Lobuche via high Kongma-La the highest pass of the adventure at 5,535 m. Morning walk above Imjatse valley and head northward follow the guide as climb leads over rocks and moraine to the top of Kongma-La pass, festooned with Buddhist prayer flags and rock cairn as a marker.
The pass hidden between Mehara and Pokalde peaks within to great wall of Nuptse, from here after having refreshing break descend to Khumbu glacier with short climb to a moraine ridge, and then down to Lobuche for overnight stop a place with many good lodges for overnight stay.

From Lobuche morning starts on pleasant path within a wide valley, then short climb to reach in the mid-way to interesting metrological station and Everest base camp. For interested people can take a tour of Glass Pyramid which is a metrological station, a joint venture of Italian and Nepalese scientists, here to record weather and movement of ice and glaciers.
After an interesting visit continue walk above moraine and ice with view of Khumbu glacier below from the trail, a short descend to wide open field of Gorakshep, a place with few lodges. Gorakshep at one time an original Everest base camp. From here with short rest adventure lead towards highlight as route menders over moraine and rocks to Everest base camp and close within massive Khumbu Ice Falls and glaciers.
Enjoy wonderful time at Everest base camp, then return back to Gorakshep for overnight stop in one of its nice lodge.

Early morning options for climb of few hours to the Kalapathar hill top, offers closest views of Mt. Pumori and Mt. Everest. A steep climb to the highest spot of the adventure at 5,644 m / 18, 517 feet.
After a scenic moment descend to Gorakshep and continue walk back to Lobuche, as walk reach a small place at Thugla, where our route diverts down to Pheriche windy valley towards a nice settlement of Pheriche with many good lodges quite similar location to Dingboche. Enjoy lunch stop and then head down to Pangboche village for overnight stop.

From Pangboche a slow up to upper village of Pangboche a place with an old monastery, surrounded by few tall juniper trees. Continue walk on leaving the
main trail above Imjatse River with views of Ama Dablam and Tengboche monastery. As walk head down to a sleepy Phortse village for overnight stop.

Enjoying a quiet and pleasant overnight at Phortse, morning walk with short down to cross a bridge over Dudh Kosi at a place called Phortse Tenga. From here a climb to Mong Danda a ridge top rewards with stunning views of Everest, Ama Dablam, Tharmasarku and Kwangde peaks. After a great view of beautiful scenery downhill where route to Namche and Khumjung village diverts.

Our direction lead to a slow climb into small tree lines of juniper, birch and rhododendron towards a large Khumjung village, located on a glacial valley.
The valley beneath holy peak of Khumbila, staying overnight in a nice lodge with time for short walk to the oldest monastery of Khumbu area.

From Khumjung walk takes you to slow up to its sister village at Khunde and visit the only first hospital of Khumbu, built by Edmund Hillary Foundation.
After a nice interesting tour of the hospital and lovely traditional Sherpa village, from here on easy gradual trail with descend to Namche Bazaar for short refreshing break, after an enjoyable time in the harmony of local Sherpa culture.

Afternoon downhill to Dudh Kosi River and walk towards Sagarmatha (Everest) National Park entrance and exit point, a short walk brings to lovely village at Monjo for overnight stop before Lukla.

Enjoy last day walk of the adventure, as morning leads to cross a long suspension bridge over Dudh Kosi River and then to Phakding village as walk continues past Ghat and Tade-Kosi small villages.
From the exact point where Surkhe and Pangbong and Lukla trail joins, head for last final climb for an hour to Lukla town, and then check into a nice lodge at Lukla for last final stop around high Khumbu and Everest region with afternoon free for short walks and browse around Lukla town.

Morning short walk to Lukla Tenzing & Hillary airport with a short airstrip suitable for STOL (Short Take Off and Landing) aircraft. As plane arrives from Kathmandu or Lukla, then board on the airplane for exciting flight of less than 30 minutes.
During air-borne enjoy grand panorama of Himalayan range, as plane lands at Kathmandu airport. On reaching Kathmandu airport transfer back to your hotels with afternoon free at leisure for shopping souvenirs and handicrafts.

A free day as contingency, in case of unfavorable bad weather that might lead to delay or flight cancellation in Lukla. As Himalayan weather can be unpredictable sometimes even in best time of the year. If all goes well as per our standard itinerary, one can relax or join or join in for another tour around Kathmandu-Patan or Bhaktapur or enjoy individual activities.

Last day in Nepal as per your international flight time, our staff and guide transfer you to the airport for homeward bound. After a great time and adventure on Solu to Everest Trekking.

Accommodation in local lodges is simple but nice, clean and cozy but smaller rooms around Solu region. But at Lukla and Namche Bazaar, the hotels and lodges are of a high standard with attached bathrooms. Having large warm dining rooms serves a comprehensive food menu from Continental, Chinese, Indian, and Tibetan to Nepal meals. Some lodges also provide fresh bakery items also. The main preferred meal is Nepali Dal Bhat (boiled rice and lentil soup with seasonal vegetables and homemade hot sauce or mild pickle. The large group provides set meals to make it easier as well to save time and fuel energy.

Nearly all main villages like Phaplu, and Junbesi as far towards Lukla town, Phakding, and Namche Bazaar as well as higher to Lobuche and Gorakshep. But sometimes due to landscapes wise entering deep valleys and gorges where internet services could be obstructed.
