Best seasons for Solu to Khumbu and Everest base camp Trekking:
The best time for this wonderful adventure is the mid-spring and autumn to pre-winter seasons, spring from March to May, and autumn/fall begins from September to November months. Can visit during the pre-winter time also in early December where days clear but cold morning and night time. Springtime from March to May is lively with wildflowers in seasonal bloom, especially the rhododendrons and orchids of various species.
You can witness during flowering times around high Pike hill and on route Tengboche during March to May. In the spring season, most days are fine and with longer sun-light hours, but can get an overcast late afternoon with chances of snow sometimes on high altitude, as well on passes.
Autumn / fall from September to November is another best time for this trek with fine days, clear blue sky for views and walks. But days are shorter due to sun-light hours, temperatures drop to a cold morning, late afternoon, and nighttime around higher elevation, but clear starry nights. Chances of snow on tracks above 2,000 m as well on passes.
Religion and Culture:
Starting from the Solu area, the eastern people are of mixed peoples, mostly Sherpa, Rai of Kirat tribes with few Gurung, Magar, and Tamang with Hindu Chettries and Brahmin. As you enter the heart of Solu, southern areas of Mt. Everest from Phaplu village on route to Pike Hill and around high Khumbu region, highly populated by highlanders the Sherpa tribe interwoven to Buddhism religion of age-old heritage and colorful culture.
Overview
Solu-Khumbu to Everest Base Camp via Pike Hill & Cho-La Pass Trekking, an adventure that covers the whole of the Everest region. From lower hills of Solu to higher valleys of Khumbu facing a grand panorama of the Himalayan range of mountains.
Adventure of more than three weeks exploring remote villages on off the beaten tracks to mainstream trails of high Khumbu. Truly an epic journey starting from Solu to scenic Pike Hilltop overlooking spectacular sunrise over an array of Himalayan peaks. From Pike Hill enjoy a wide mountain panorama facing Manaslu, Ganesh, and Langtang Himal towards the west with Jugal and Gaurishankar range. The view extends to Mt. Everest and Mt. Makalu towards North-East direction in the harmony of pristine forest surroundings.
Solu-Khumbu to Everest Base Camp via Pike Hill & Cho-La Pass Trekking, one of the longest adventures but rewarding. This trek takes you to visit both sides of Everest from south of Solu and then at high Khumbu. Where trekkers will have the best opportunity to explore all parts of Everest, from the main busy trail to remote hidden corners.
From the Solu area after a grand adventure at Pike Hill with exciting views of beautiful landscapes and mountain panorama. The journey continues reaching the old classic trail of Jiri to Everest base camp at Junbesi, a lovely Sherpa village.
After Junbesi on a nice scenic trail heading towards interesting villages of Ringmo and Takshindo to Nunthala with ups and downhill. On reaching Dudh Kosi River climb towards the Khumbu region through the cool shade of beautiful forest above the river. Finally, our route joins on the main path of Lukla and Solu, from here encountering more trekkers and villages. As trek follows Dudh Kosi River to enter Sagarmatha National Park, which is listed in World Heritage Sites.
The word Sagarmatha is a name for Everest in Nepal, while the native Sherpa knows as Chomolungma. From the park entrance and then leaving the river behind with an uphill climb to the famous Namche Bazaar. The main hub of Khumbu villagers as well for trekkers, where one can enjoy various facilities from banks, nice restaurants. Including many good lodges, shops with well-stocked stores, a perfect place and height for rest and acclimatization.
Spending a day at Namche for a hike to excellent view-points, and then our adventure leads on a quiet trail to Thame. The walk leads west on a less trekked route through nice woods and past the farm village of Thamo towards Thame.
Thame a quant sleepy village where trekkers seldom visit this remote isolated area of western Khumbu, located on route Renjo-La. As well on the high trail towards Rolwaling valley and Tibet border, a nice village with an old monastery.
From Thame onward within the arid and barren high country as the walk continues with a climb over a high hill. Then reaching a small settlement at Lungden, where the route to Renjo-La and Tibet border via Nangpa-La Pass splits. Walk follows up to a high ridge, past small glacial ponds then reaching Renjo-La Pass at 5,300 m.
Enjoy the super panorama of the world’s highest peaks with Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Cho-Oyu, and Makalu includes an array of snow peaks. After glorious moments on top high Renjo-La pass, a slow descend reaches you at beautiful Gokyo Valley.
Gokyo is one of the most picturesque valleys with emerald-colored lakes facing close views of the world’s 6th highest Mt. Cho-Oyu. From Gokyo after an enjoyable time within beautiful scenery, the journey then heads to cross over Cho-La.
Crossing the last high pass of the adventure, Cho-La also spelled as Tsho which means a pond or lake in Sherpa. The pass marked with rock cairns, prayer flags, forms a barrier between beautiful Gokyo valley and the Everest Base Camp route.
The top of the Cho-La pass is enclosed by Cholatse, Taboche, Nirekha, and Lobuche giant peaks with views of Mt. Cho-Oyu. After a tough climb facing wonderful views of both sides of Khumbu and scenic Gokyo valleys. The adventure continues with a long descend to the bottom at Dzongla, which joins the main trail to Everest base camp.
On completing both Renjo and Cho-La high passes, the last part of the journey leads towards higher arid windswept terrain. The adventure continues towards our main goal and highlight at Everest base camp, after walking past Lobuche and Gorakshep settlements.
A wonderful experience standing beneath the world’s highest Mt. Everest and its adjoining peaks Lhotse, Nuptse, and close to Khumbu Ice-Fall.
After a memorable moment within dramatic landscapes similar to the arctic zone, our last final adventure climb on top of Kalapathar Hill. The highest point of the trek at 5,643 m, rewards you with an incredible panorama of giant snow peaks.
Enjoy the closest views of Mt. Everest at a mere distance with Mt. Pumori that rises high in front of you.
Achieving all our highlights, return journey downhill on the main trail to Namche and Lukla with a visit to Tengboche Monastery. Tengboche, situated on a high ridge surrounded by an array of snow-clad peaks, amid the lovely forest.
Tengboche is a popular spot due to its magnificent monastery as well as views of Mt. Everest and majestic Ama Dablam.
The last part of the journey takes you to Namche Bazaar and then downhill to Dudh Kosi River. The walk continues past the national park and nice villages of Monjo and Phakding then with the last final climb to Lukla.
At Lukla for the last overnight halt, next early morning a sweeping scenic flight brings you back to Kathmandu. On reaching Kathmandu our great adventure Solu-Khumbu to Everest Base Camp via Pike Hill & Cho-La Pass Trekking concludes.

Please Note:
On this trek to Pike Hill, in case of delay and cancellation of flight to Phaplu, other option will be an overland journey of long 6-7 hour drive to reach Phaplu from Kathmandu. On route Pike Hill up to Junbesi as well from Thame to Lungden, might need to spend overnights in tented camps with meals served by our camping cook and field staff.
