Overviews:   Rupshu Valley Trekking, an exclusive adventure where one can experience both scenic and cultural sites of high Ladakh country. Ladakh, the name itself means land of high passes, within a vast extension of Tibetan South-West plateau. Ladakh is also known as ‘Little Tibet’ due to its similar culture, the religion of Mahayana Buddhism with windswept dry terrains. This wonderful Rupshu Valley Trekking leads to both beautiful regions of the North-West Himalaya range. Includes high land of Ladakh and Manali Hilltown, situated with the state of Himachal Pradesh.   Rupshu Valley Trekking leads to the southeast of Ladakh, on the road that links with Kulu Manali and Leh. Where adventure takes you to high passes of above 5,000 m high, overlooking amazing views of mountain panorama. Most of the country is dry with a similar climate to Tibet and sparsely populated by cattle herders known as Changpa’s. The nomads of Ladakh high land, spending most of the year occupied with live-stock herding of yaks, sheep, and goats.   Rupshu Valley Trekking leads to high-altitude desert remote villages and isolated settlements. Where one can experience a blend of colorful culture and scenic views in the harmony of pristine nature.   Our wonderful adventure begins on leaving Leh, after an interesting tour around great historical and cultural sites. As drive leads beyond Leh to Hemis and starting the walk from Martselang to Shang Sumdo heading towards higher passes.   The trek from Sang Sumdo leads from one scenic valley to another crossing the high Kongmaru-La pass. As route leads through narrow gorge crossing few icy streams of Langtang Chu Zalung Karpo La. Adventure continues from one pass to next scenic high mountain pass over Morang-La 5, 300 m to end the trek. After walking past Sorra to Dat, an exciting desolate and isolated village with a small monastery with stone-built houses. From Dat heading towards our final destination around Rupshu valley to Lun then at Takh.   From Takh, the Rupshu valley trekking completes taking an interesting drive to the lovely green hill town at Manali. A pleasant place to end our wonderful adventure back into tall tree lines of firs and pine trees. Best seasons for Rupshu Valley Trekking:   The best time for this wonderful adventurous trek and climb is from late spring and early autumn seasons, from mid-April and May, as well during the monsoon time of June to mid-September. As Ladakh and Rupshu valley fall within rain-shadow, where heavy black monsoon clouds are blocked by Himalaya high mountains.   April & May are fine clear days most of the time, with longer sun-light hours but can get overcast in the late afternoon with chances of snow sometimes. Autumn/fall is another best time for treks and tours around Ladakh, with a fine clear day. But days are shorter due to sunlight hours can be freezing cold, especially in the morning, and night times will be clear with bright starry nights. Chances of snowfall during the walk sometimes.   For interested people can visit Ladakh for a tour and trekking during summer times of June to August also. As Ladakh falls within rain shadow area, where monsoon dark rain clouds blocked by the great Himalayas. That is why the country of Ladakh is dry with less rainfall.   Religion and Culture: Ladakh and the North West Himalaya are populated by Ladakhi people descendants of a mixed tribal race of Mons of North India, and Dards of Baltistan with Mongols of Central Asia. History shows the Mons were the first immigrants, followed by Dards who founded different settlements in the Indus valley. Ladakh is a country of strong Buddhism religion and culture similar to the Tibetan heritage of ancient Buddhism custom, where one can visit its many old monasteries of great religious significance.    

Itinerary

Morning after a short scenic of an hour flight to Leh from Delhi, on arrival at Leh, Ladakh Kushok Bakula Rimpoche. As you head outside the air terminal, our staff and guide receives you for short drive in the heart of Leh town to your Hotels. Afternoon free at leisure, optional walk to the center of Leh and its market.

At Leh, for acclimatization and for exciting tour at places of interest, Leh has a vast range of main bazaar on the street colorful local fruits and vegetables vendors. The streets are busy with roadside restaurant, cafes and craft shops. The old Leh Palace stands on the top of the high hill overlooking the Leh city and its valley. The white Peace (Shanti) Stupa stands nearby high on hill which is worth a visit for the great views of Leh. The world's highest Polo ground located beyond the main bus station, rest of the day free at leisure to browse around Leh, Ladakh capital.

Another exciting day in Leh and beyond, a scenic drive to Indus Valley visit Monastery, Phyang Gompa is a Buddhist monastery. Located in Fiang village, just 16 km west of Leh in Ladakh, the monastery established in 1515 AD. Enjoy tour of Spituk Monastery also called as Pethup Gomba, which is not far from Leh at about 8 km. One of the famous monastery founded in 11th Centuary, a yearly Gustor Festival is held, an interesting site of great historical and religious importance.
Tour of Thiksey Gompa built in 16th Century, situated on a hill top. The monastery enriched with Tibetan-style books, a huge Buddha statue and excellent works of arts. After a great day, few hour drive takes you back at Leh in the comfort of nice View Point Hotel, rest of the afternoon at leisure and preparation for Rupshu Valley trekking.

Having good breakfast at the hotel, getting ready for trek departure towards Shang Sumdo within Markha valley and adventure to Rupshu scenic valley.
An interesting drive through farm country to Hemis village and its large religious complex. Hemis, one of the largest and wealthiest monasteries in Ladakh with more than 150 monks; an annual Hemis festival is held. The monastery, stands in a gorge surrounded by mountain scenery, built in 18th Century.

Hemis Monastery is a Himalayan Buddhist monastery of the Drokpa Lineage, in Hemis, Ladakh, India. Situated 45 km from Leh, it was re-established in 1672 by the Ladakhi king Sengge Namgyal. The annual Hemis festival takes place in honor of great Padmasambava, a Guru of 6th Centuary who reformed Tibetan Buddhism and founder of Nyinpa sect. After an interesting tour a short drive to Marteselang
as ride leads close to the Hemis National Park, which is also a good habitation of endangered snow leopard and other wild-life. From Marteselang a small settlement of Yak herders, where our first day walk starts for few hour to Shang Sumdo, with first overnight in tented camp backed by camping crews and chef and pack animals to carry the camping gears and foods for the whole trek and climb.

Second day walk starts heading towards along the river, where the shore studded with ochre rocks and boulders. As walk leads into a narrow gorges after walking past Chukirmo Village. Where all our camping gears loaded on ponies will be unloaded twice, as route leads to a climb to the base of Kongmaru-La where our overnight camp is set at Latze Kongmaru the base of the pass.

Morning after a good breakfast, walk leads to a steep climb for an hour or more reaching on top of the first pass over Kongmaru-La. From the top enjoy grand panorama of eastern Karakoram as far towards China-Tibetan plateau.
Overlooking the southern view of Kang Yatze peaks with Ladakh Mountain Range. After a spectacular scenery taking a ridge downhill crisscrossing over a scree and smaller pebbles, and then heading more down towards our campsite by the Langtang Chu River on a nice meadow.

Enjoying a pleasant overnight, morning begins with a climb up reaching a large valley, where our route leads wading across a stream. Having short refreshing stops as walk continues along a wall of moraine towards a valley floor then reaching our overnight camp at a small place of Yakrupal. Around summer pasture of Yak grazing area.

Adventure continues as our route heads further southward reaching a point where the Markha valley separates towards Rupshu area. Morning starts with climb to a high pass of Zalung Karpo-La, another gorgeous views of surrounding landscapes and snowy peaks. From the top heading downhill then taking a right direction from the pass. As trek proceeds towards a ridge and then traversing into another valley towards our overnight camp at place called Sorra.

From Sorra a small cattle herder and nomad settlement, walk takes to lovely gorges and then entering a broad and wide valley. As walk leads towards a Chorten and Mani walls lined on the path to Dat, a small amazing village blending with the surroundings with houses built of stones and muds with a small old monastery close to Sara River, where our overnight camp is set.

Morning begins on leaving the isolated village of Dat, heading towards a high Yar-La pass a climb of few hours. From the top enjoy glorious views over Rupshu valley with surrounding high snow peaks. After a grand panorama downhill towards scenic Rupshu valley, coming across nomads camps and might spot wild ass called Kyang. Then slowly walk leads close to the river bank of Lungmo Che for overnight camp on a grassy meadow.

From Lungmo-Che, on leaving the camp as morning starts as surroundings scenery changes coming across into a vast barren and arid plain where Zara Chu River flows. As walk progresses heading towards a temporary nomads camp at Lun for overnight camp.

An enjoyable last and final day trek of the adventure, as well to cross the highest pass of the journey. Morning walk follows to cross a river and then heading up to a scenic plateau, as climb starts to a steep slope reaching on top Marang-La Pass facing amazing scenery of beautiful surroundings with snow-capped peaks.
From the pass, descend to a wide grassy valley and following a nice gradual trail to the last village of the trek at Takh, located on a road-head. Overnight camp around the nice meadow with last overnight in tented camp.

Morning after a nice breakfast, taking a car or four-wheel drives, an exciting drive of six hours to lovely Manali hill town from Takh village. As drive head on winding road and then back into green lush vegetation of tall tree lines of pines and firs. Slowly journey ends on entering a nice Manali town, and transfer into the best hotels or resorts. After a long interesting overland journey to Manali crossing over Rohtang-La Pass at 3, 990 m.

A free day in Manali, a perfect and interesting town to observe local hill people culture and activities. Morning our guide takes you around the market square in the hub of Manali, as well visiting its famous Hindu temple of Hadimba Mahadev.
Tour takes you refreshing hot-spring of Vashist, rest of the day at leisure for short walks on the streets of Manali, a famous holiday town for Indians as well for foreign tourist.

Last day in the hill station town of Manali, after an exciting adventure of a life time experience on Rupshu Valley Trekking and crossing the highest passes of Himalayas. As per flight time for Delhi an hour or more drive to Bhuntar domestic airport for flight to Delhi, to connect your international flight homeward bound.

02: What will be the weather in Ladakh?

The weather is fine in most part of Ladakh, however Himalayan weather sometimes are unpredictable. Depends upon the region of trekking and other holidays in Ladakh North West India as altitude wise, higher than 3,000 meters day times are sunny most of the time with cooler morning and evening time. Ladakh with four main seasons spring from March to May and summer / Monsoon starts from June to August. Includes autumn/fall from September to November, as well as winter from December to February. The best favorable seasons for visiting the Himalayas around the spring and autumn seasons.

03: What ages does the company allows for trekking?

Age is no bar in all our trekking adventures, we have space for all ages from children from 5 to 70 years old person, as long one is physically, medically, and mentally fit. In treks that involve high passes of over 5,000 meters then we consider the age groups.

04: How are the foods and accommodation on trekking?

Most places around Ladakh due to its remote and isolated region, trekking with tented camping. Staying in the lodge where available, but using tented camping on most treks and climbing peaks in Ladakh. Few trekking regions have good lodge facilities with excellent, neat, and cozy lodges. During camping our cook will provide excellent home-cooked food as per the areas of trekking. Trekkers will be delighted to find food from Continental, Chinese, Indian, Italian, Tibetan, and Nepali meals as well fresh bakery products in some time. All meals are cooked in a healthy and hygienic manner using LPG cooking gas or in kerosene stoves. Meals are served in a large dining tent as per the size of the group, we carry gas lamps to light the dining tents.

05: What happens if one is sick on trek?

Our guides are fully prepared for this kind of situation, we carry a medical kit and the guides have gone through yearly medical training, if it’s very serious needs to be evacuated by any means of transport like a helicopter the safe and quickest way(for this reason one should have strong travel/ medical insurance to cover this extra expenses) we will contact our helicopter companies to uplift and evacuate and then bring back to the nearest hospital and medical care or in Leh depending upon distance and circumstances.

06: What to expect on trekking?

Depending upon the area of trekking routes as Ladakh is a wild country of high hills and downhill, so on a normal trek, there are many ups and downs walking with few gradual trails. Trekking routes encounter several mid hills and traditional villages full of culture and religions with shrines, monasteries with prayer symbol like Mani, stupa along the walks, and villagers are friendly and greets you with smiles.

07: Is there facilities to re-charge our electronic items as well with Wi Fi?

Internet, Wi-Fi, and phone are available around every village and large settlement on route main trekking areas. Sometimes the internet and WI-FI are slow and might be disturbing due to weather-wise. As well depending on the landscapes around the gorge and deep valleys, the internet and WI-FI will not reach the areas. One must be prepared and wait until one reaches certain high places, where communication works. Electricity available run by hydro-power, as well solar power nearly in all main villages on route trekking. Only around remote areas where camping is required, will not have electricity facilities or Wi-Fi for some days. At every lodge charging fees include per hour and per item, the price differs from one place to another.

08: Can we have hot showers on trekking?

Hot / Cold showers are available in every lodge where you stay overnights mainly around popular trekking routes. All lodges charge some amount for using hot-showers in all standard lodges. But on camping days there will be no hot showers available, but we can provide shower tents on request.
