Best seasons for Pike Hill Trekking:

The best time for this wonderful adventure is the mid-spring and autumn to pre-winter seasons, spring from March to May, and autumn/fall begins from September to November months. Can visit during the pre-winter time also in early December where days clear but cold morning and night time. Springtime from March to May is lively with wildflowers in seasonal bloom, especially the rhododendrons and orchids of various species.

Which you will witness during flowering times around high Pike hill during March to May. In the spring season, most days are fine and with longer sun-light hours, but can get an overcast late afternoon with chances of snow sometimes on high altitude, as well on passes.

Autumn / fall from September to November another best time for this trek with fine days, clear blue sky for views and walks. But days are shorter due to sun-light hours, temperatures drop to a cold morning, late afternoon, and nighttime around higher elevation, but clear starry nights. Chances of snow on tracks above 2,000 m as well on passes.

Religion and Culture:

Starting from Solu area, the eastern people are of mixed peoples, mostly Sherpa, Rai of Kirat tribes with few Gurung, Magar, and Tamang with Hindu Chettries and Brahmin. As you enter in the heart of Solu, southern areas of Mt. Everest from Phaplu village on route to Pike Hill, highly populated by highlanders the Sherpa tribe interwoven to Buddhism religion of age-old heritage and colorful culture.

Overview

 

Pike Hill Trekking, an enjoyable adventure on the least visited pockets of the southern Everest area around the district of Solu. This trek is more beautiful for nature and flower lovers in springtime when wildflowers are in seasonal bloom.

 

Especially the rhododendron of various species from short bushes to tall tree lines makes the surroundings environment bright and colorful.

Pike Hill Trekking, where few groups of trekkers seldom visit due to its remote location with minimum facilities of lodges.

 

However, one of the most marvelous countries to venture within its pristine wilderness with unmatched views of high snow peaks. At present Pike, is slowly gaining popularity among trekkers, who are interested in walking around serene pleasant surroundings.

 

Pike Hill Trekking, begins with a swift short flight from Kathmandu to land at Solu small airstrip in Phaplu. A lovely village close to Salleri Bazaar, the headquarter town of Solu-Khumbu district, situated south of Mt. Everest.

 

After an exciting time at Phaplu in the comfort of a nice lodge and warm hospitality of Sherpa people. The indigenous mountain tribes of Eastern Himalaya interwoven to strong Buddhism religion and culture. One can notice in the first place as you land at Phaplu airport, with time to explore the lovely Solu area.

 

From Phaplu first day walk starts heading west through nice villages and farm fields to enter the cool shade of the forest. As route leads to short uphill then reaching at Pike base camp, on leaving villages and farm areas.

 

The base camp is located on the foot of Pike Hill, amidst beautiful forest surroundings with tall rhododendron and pines trees. A lovely spot with few small houses serving as lodges and tea shops for travelers, an overnight in this serene environment.

 

Next, early morning start climbs into the forested trail on winding uphill path all the way on top Pike Hill. The highest point of the adventure at 4,067 m, offers a stunning panorama of Himalayan peaks with striking sunrise views.

 

Enjoy facing super views of a Himalayan mountain range from Manaslu, Ganesh, and Langtang in the northwest with Jugal Himal. Overlooking Gaurishankar, Melung Tse, Numbur peas towards the north with Mt. Everest and Makalu in the east direction. After a most mesmerizing moment downhill walk back into farm areas of Loding and Junbesi village. An interesting village of Junbesi populated by the Sherpa community an opportunity to observe the local culture of immense interest.

 

With time here at Junbesi village for a day hike to famous Thubten Choeling, a large monastery, and a nunnery. Located in pristine surroundings and isolated from main trails and villages with views of Numbur and Dudh Kund Himal.

 

After an enjoyable time around Thubten Choeling monastery and at Junbesi, the walk leads back to Phaplu for the last overnight stop. Next morning a short scenic flight brings you to Kathmandu, after a memorable adventure and experience on Pike Hill Trekking.

Day 01:          Arrival in Kathmandu 1,345 m and transfer to respective Hotels

Day 02:          Kathmandu with sightseeing tour, trek briefing and preparations.

Day 03:          Fly to Phaplu 2,415 m – 25 mins flight.
Day 04:          Trek to Jampre 2,920 m – 05 hrs.
Day 05:          Trek to Pike Hill Base Camp 3,640 m /11,942 feet- 06 hrs.
Day 06:          Trek and Climb to Pike Hill 4,302 m/14,114 feet and trek to
Loding 2,515 m- 07 hrs.
Day 07:          Trek to Junbesi 2,675 m – 05 hrs.
Day 08:          Rest day at Junbesi hike to Thubten Choeling Monastery.
Day 09:          Trek to Phaplu 2,415 – 05 hrs.
Day 10:          Fly from Phaplu to Kathmandu with afternoon free at leisure.
Day 11:          In Kathmandu free and spare day as contingency.
Day 12:          International Departure for homeward bound.

On this trek to Pike Hill, in case of delay and cancellation of flight to Phaplu, other option will be an overland journey of long 6-7 hour drive to reach Phaplu or vice-versa to and from Kathmandu.

Itinerary

On arrival at Kathmandu and Nepal International Airport, received by our guides and staff for short transfer to your hotels in the hub of Kathmandu city.

Checking your lovely room, and after a refreshing rest join with other members of Pike Hill Trekking. Our guide or group leader brief you about the treks, do’s and don’ts, local culture, as well camping, foods and of lodges on route trek.

Morning after breakfast at given time, our city guide will meet for interesting sightseeing of best world heritage sites around Kathmandu.

Tour includes old Durbar (royal palace and courtyard) square, with Temple of Kumari (Living young virgin Goddess). Visit famous Nepal landmark Swayambhunath Stupa a 2,500 years old, a Buddhist Stupa with all seeing eyes of Lord Buddha. Afternoon tour of holy Hindu Temple of Pashupatinath and visit Bouddhanath, Asia’s largest Stupa with four cardinals eyes of Buddha surrounded with prayer wheels and small market, this place is also known as Little Tibet due to strong Tibetan influence.

After an exciting day tour back to hotel for Pike Hill Trek preparation and last minute briefing from your leader and guide.

Morning transfer to Kathmandu domestic airport and board in a small aircraft. The plane model either Twin-Otter, Dornier or similar, as flight takes off enjoy grand panorama of Himalayan range with beautiful landscapes.
On landing at small airstrip in Phaplu around the district of Solu, a short walk to a nice lodge for overnight stop at Phaplu.
Rest of the day free to explore around this lovely village and witness the local culture, the village populated by Sherpa people. The main tribe of Everest and
Eastern Himalaya with some mixed hill people the Kirat Rai, Magar, Tamang with few Hindu Bharamins and Chettries, as well Newar.

Enjoying a pleasant overnight stop in Phaplu with warm hospitality of the Sherpa community, after having good breakfast. First day trek begins on gradual winding path with short climb past farm areas and villages facing distant views of snow peak. As walk progress with short refreshing stops with time to observe rural farm life, where few group of trekkers seldom pass through this remote villages and on this off beaten trail. Walk heads further west to Jampre for overnight stop, a moderate size farm village with time to explore around this nice village.

From Jampre, our second day walk heads towards our main destination around Pike Hill. As walk continues on leaving farm villages and main human settlements, towards complete wilderness within lovely forest surroundings.
Beautiful woodland covered in rhododendron-magnolia-oaks-hemlocks-pines and fir trees. Slowly walk takes you at Pike Hill Base Camp, a summer pasture for local cattle with temporary huts and shades of cattle herders.
The base camp houses small simple lodge serving simple basic Nepalese or Sherpa meals for dinner. Due to its remote location and hardly gets visitors once in a while, but slowly getting popular as few lodges has been established to cater the needs of travelers.

Early morning before crack of dawn carrying pack lunch start walk with long climb of near two hours. As the trail winds up through lovely forest of tall rhododendron, oaks, pines and fir trees. Finally climb ends on top Pike Hill, the highest spot of the adventure at 4,302 m high.
Enjoy mind-blowing panorama of Himalayan peaks along with striking sunrise that glows on top highest Mt. Everest and other array of peaks.
From the top of Pike Hill views of Ganesh-Langtang with Jugal Himal range includes Mt. Gaurishankar-Melung Tse-Numbur and Makalu towards north and far-east. After a wonderful moment enjoying grand panorama of Himalayan range, then head downhill to base camp and continue walk towards Loding a nice farm village for overnight stop.

On completing our main highlight, climb to Pike Hill morning walk from Loding village on gradual trail with few short ups and down. As route leads to cool coniferous forest with last final climb of the day on reaching Junbesi, a large Sherpa village. An interesting village enriched with age-old culture of Buddhist heritage. At Junbesi the lodge is much better as this village located on the main trail of Jiri to Everest.

After a wonderful time around Solu and Pike Hill, Junbesi a perfect spot for rest day, here with options for day hike of few hours to Thubten Choeling Monastery. Carry pack lunch and start the morning walk with climb on nice stone paved path towards the monastery complex. Actually a nunnery houses 700 or more Buddhist nuns. Enjoy tour of the monastery and nunnery of great religious and cultural interest of Buddhism heritage with views of Numbur Himal towards north.
After a marvelous time visiting the monastery with pleasant moments with cheerful and happy young nuns, head back to Junbesi for overnight halt.

After a pleasant time at Junbesi last day walk on gentle winding trail on the main trekking trail to Phaplu for final overnight stop around Solu district. Walk leads with downhill with few short ups to Phaplu and back into a lovely lodge.

Morning as per flight time for Kathmandu, short walk to small air terminal of Phaplu, as plane arrives from Kathmandu and then board in a small aircraft for exciting scenic flight to Kathmandu. On arrival at Kathmandu domestic terminal walk to the car park for short drive to your hotel, rest of the day free at leisure.

A free day as contingency, in case of unfavorable bad weather that might lead to delay or cancellation of flight. As Himalayan weather can be unpredictable sometimes even in best time of the year. If all goes well as per our standard itinerary, one can relax or join or join in for another tour around Kathmandu-Patan or Bhaktapur or enjoy individual activities.

Last day in Nepal as per your international flight time, our staff and guide transfer you to the airport for homeward bound. After a great time and adventure around Pike Hill Trekking.
