This trek involves much high altitude around the Eastern Himalayas, where one needs to be on the right seasons of the year. The best time for this extreme adventure is the mid-spring and autumn seasons, spring from March to May, and autumn/fall begins from September to November months.
Springtime from March to May will be much lively with wild-flowers in seasonal bloom, especially the rhododendrons and orchids of various species.

Mt. Makalu Base Camp with West & Sherpani Col passes trekking, the adventure begins from Kathmandu with a sweeping short flight. Where aircraft lands at Tumlingtar airport, located on a low warm Arun River Valley, with time here to get organized. In Tumlingtar we have spared a day here so that one can get familiar with local traditions. As well as time to observe Nepalese farm life and experience the local culture of both Hindu and Buddhism religions.
From Tumlingtar with the guide, trekking staff including porters, where drive in a local vehicles takes you to high hills. The journey leads to farm villages past the large town of Khandbari the headquarter town of Sankhuwa Sabha district. As the drive continues on leaving the low warm areas towards the cooler hill at Num village where our adventure begins.
Trek starts from Num as well the end of motorable drive till its ends at Lukla, walk down to a river. Where climb takes you up to Seduwa village, and then at Tashi-Gaon the last village and permanent human settlements. From here onwards into the complete wilderness in the harmony of pristine surroundings and the world’s tallest mountain range of eastern Himalayas.
The adventure continues on leaving the last village with a steep climb in the shade of cool rhododendron and pine forest. Then at Khoma Danda, a high ridge offers fabulous views of Mt. Makalu, Baruntse Himal and Mt. Kanchenjunga.
From here onwards into the mountainous country, as the walk takes you over Tutu-la and Shipton-La pass to reach Barun valley. A scenic valley protected under Makalu-Barun National Park and Conservation Area, enriched with rare and unique flora and fauna. Around Barun valley where exotic plants and animals are found, which are almost extinct on this planet.
From here onward tree lines give away for high-altitude bush and shrubs, as walk progress towards Makalu base camp. Heading further north-west at the end of Barun valley to reach in the heart of Mt. Makalu at base camp.
Mt. Makalu, a black rocky pyramid-shaped tower high as the world’s 5th highest peak at 8,463 m / 27, 766 feet. First ascent by Swiss and French Expedition on May 15th, 1955, the toughest technical mountain to encounter for mountaineers.
Makalu base camp at 4, 870 m / 15, 978 feet, a perfect height for acclimatization and rest day. One of the best spots for excellent views of Mt. Everest’s rare east flank is known as the Khangsung Face of Everest. Spend the free day with a climb to high close hills for more great views of surrounding peaks. As well one overlook further west towards our next day adventure routes, along with Baruntse and Chamlang Himal with Mt. Makalu.
After an enjoyable time at Makalu base camp, the adventure continues heading much higher terrain, in between Makalu and Baruntse Himal. Our expert guide with good knowledge of the area as well as mountaineering skill, brief you regarding safety measures.
The climb takes over high ridges within rocky moraine, ice, and snow as well on a glaciated section in few places. A strenuous climb takes you on top of Sherpani Col at 6, 135 m, after spending overnights before the big haul.
The adventure continues heading towards the highest pass West Col 6,142 m high, located at a close distance from Baruntse Himal. From here a steep descend to Hongu valley at Panch Pokhari on route to Khumbu and Everest region.
Panch Pokhari, a place with five smaller glacial ponds, close to Baruntse Himal base camp, at the junction. Where route from Mera-la, Makalu, and Amphu Labtsa-La pass joins, having a rest day on this beautiful scenic spot.
Next, early morning is a great adventure for the last tough climb to cross Amphu Labtsa-La at above 5,780 m high. The last major pass, a steep haul to reach on top facing mind-blowing panorama with Island Peak, Ama Dablam, Lhotse.
Includes an array of peaks with Baruntse Himal and Makalu, after enjoying spectacular views of surrounding amazing scenery. A slow and long descend awaits you to reach the bottom of Amphu Labtsa peak and the pass.
Where all trekkers, staff, and porters will be supported with main ropes for the big and last technical descend. On reaching at the rim of Imjatse valley making sure everyone is safe and in sound physical shape. From this isolated rugged and glaciated Imjatse valley, and close to Island Peak base camp called Parsya Gyab.
A slow walk heading north to reach back to human settlement at Chhukung, a small place with some good lodge. Located on the eastern end of scenic Imjatse valley, quite a popular place for trekkers on route to Island Peak climb.
On reaching Khumbu within the Everest region, from here onwards a pleasant walk to Lukla for a short flight back at Kathmandu. The route leads to nice places of Dingboche, Pangboche villages with a climb to Thyangboche, a beautiful spot with a famous Monastery. Walk down and up to popular Namche Bazaar, a large village with many facilities that one can find around.
The last leg of the journey, a wonderful walk within lovely woods of rhododendron and pines past Sagarmatha National Park. Finally walk ends at Lukla, a town with a small airstrip called Tenzing & Hillary airport.
Last overnight in a lovely nice lodge in Lukla, and for celebration after an overwhelming adventure. Next early morning a smooth scenic flight brings you back to civilization at Kathmandu. After an exciting and memorable experience on Mt. Makalu Base Camp with West & Sherpani Col passes trekking.
