MT. KANCHENJUNGA MOUNTAINEERING EXPEDITION

Overview

Mt. Kanchenjunga is the world’s third highest peak at above 8,586 m / 28,169 feet high. An exciting adventure for 50 days in complete tranquility around mountain wilderness, away from the mainstream trail and human civilization.

Mt. Kanchenjunga Mountaineering Expedition amidst remote and absolutely beautiful scenery as you walk towards Yarlung Glacier and to Ramche.

Then reaching to our main highlight at Mt. Kanchenjunga South Base Camp for the climb to the summit. On top of the world’s 3rd highest mountain, facing outmost views of surrounding giant peaks.

The history of the Mt. Kanchenjunga Expedition begins first with a British team of climbers, who conquered Mt. Kanchenjunga’s summit on May 25th, 1955. By veteran adventurers and mountaineers late George Band accompanied by fellow climbers J. Brown, N. Hardie, and S. Streather.

Since then the mountain is seldom climbed, but at present from the last few decades. More visitors and adventurers are interested, due to its serene and pristine surroundings. As it is located far from main villages and towns, within a towering range of peaks.

Mt. Kanchenjunga straddles the border between Nepal and Sikkim (a small North Eastern State of India. But most trekking and mountaineering are more popular from the Nepalese side around the Far North Eastern Himalayas.

Mt. Kanchenjunga, whose original name is Kanchendzonga, is a huge wall or a fort of a mountain. The word comes from the Tibetan language meaning five jewels, which refers to adjoining peaks Kanchenjunga-I (8,586 m). Includes Kanchenjunga West (8,505 m), Kanchenjunga South (8,494 m), Central (8,482 m) and Khambachen (7, 902 m). Three of the main five peaks make the massif Kanchenjunga Himal, located east of Mt. Everest and Mt. Makalu.

Mt. Kanchenjunga, although various nations’ mountaineers have climbed it, found that as one of the toughest peaks to climb. But regarded as a great exacting adventure throughout the trek and climb from the southern Kanchenjunga base camp.

Truly an adventurous feat, this is why Brown Bear Trails have designed the expedition of more than a month climb. Allowing ample time for preparation as well as practice exercise before the classic ascent to the summit of
Mt. Kanchenjunga.

Mt. Kanchenjunga is situated at the end of Nepal’s Far Eastern Himalayas, due to its remoteness. The quickest means of accessibility is taking a flight and driving to the starting point of the treks. As well as on the same route on the return journey, which allows climbers to enjoy more of the country scenery.

Mt. Kanchenjunga Mountaineering Expedition is supported by full logistic support, along with camping equipment and food to carry. Where Brown Bear employs the best climbing guides and field staff with an expert camping cook.

Due to its remoteness and the few trekkers seldom venture, where lodge or Tea-House is very simple and basic. This trek and climb will be more in a tented camp, depending upon the size of the climbers. For smaller groups staying on the best available lodge en-route, and for larger groups in tented camping on most trekking days. As well as tented camping for the whole month before the climb of Mt. Kanchenjunga. More than a month-long duration at Kanchenjunga Base Camp, for preparation and ferrying of climbing equipment. Including, food and tents till to the last camp, as well as checking and making the routes for the climb.

Reaching the summit of Mt. Kanchenjunga requires four camps after base camp. The last IV camp is at 7,600 m / 24, 934 feet high. The last final push of great effort is to climb 986 m / 3, 235 feet high to reach the summit.

Enjoy the superb panorama of surrounding giant peaks as far as towards

Mt. Everest and Mt. Makalu in the west. After a great triumph head safely back to base camp and then back into green woods. Where exciting drives on the mountain rough road lead to lovely farm areas and villages to Ilam Bazaar.
