Overview
Explore the unexploited natural beauty in remote hills to the north of the Dhaulagiri range on the Lower Dolpa Trek. On this trip, you will explore isolated parts of western Nepal in the Shey Phoksundo National Park. The trek follows a hidden trail used by the local inhabitants and requires healthy physical exertion. There are beautiful geographical sightseeing, including Phoksundo Lake, the deepest in the country, along with diverse floras and faunas.
Lower Dolpa Trek follows an eighteen-day itinerary in the north-west region of Nepal. The main destination of this trek is Phoksundo Lake, which lies in Shey Phoksundo National Park. Most of the trail is through this natural reserve. This area is rich in different kinds of floras and faunas, including national flora Rhododendron and endangered snow leopard. Similarly, Dolpa is among the few areas to home Buddhist people of Tibetan origin Bon Po. You will explore their unique lifestyles and practices.
The trip begins with your arrival in Kathmandu. After permit procedures, you’ll fly to Nepalgunj and stay in a hotel. From there, you will take a flight to Juphal. Your trekking starts from Juphal, and for that day, you’ll rest in Dunai. Then you’ll trek each day from Dunai to Tarakot and continues past Laina Odar and Toltol to reach Dho Tarap. You’ll spend a day in Dho Tarap for excursion and acclimatize with the local climate and high altitude.
Further, you’ll trek to Numa La Base Camp, cross Numa La Pass, and reach Danighar. You’ll cross another pass, Baga La Pass, to reach Temche. Finally, you’ll get to Phoksundo Lake, where you’ll have a whole day to explore the lake surrounding. Next day, you’ll start descending to Chhepka and Juphal the following day. From Juphal, you fly to Nepalgunj and then back to Kathmandu. The trail is long and difficult so, it is rather unsuitable for beginners. The preferable seasons for this trekking is during the spring season from March to May and during the autumn season from September to November.
