Overview

The one-day Kathmandu World Heritage Tour is a perfect opportunity to enjoy Nepal’s unique cultural aspects. The tour beautifully captures the country’s culture and traditional facets as it lets you explore many old temples and medieval shrines that represent Nepal’s bygone monarchial era. The tour presents you the opportunity to enjoy Nepali art; it also gives you the right set of circumstances to experience the culture as well through the locals. The tour encompasses four significant places- the Kathmandu Durbar Square, the Pashupatinath temple, Bouddhanath Stupa, and the Swayambhunath temples. Each of the sites is UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and each holds both a religious and cultural importance to the Nepalese people.

The tour begins after breakfast with a visit to Kathmandu Durbar Square. It is a square that holds many old temples and palaces built during the reign of the Malla dynasty. Each of the old buildings within the Durbar Square is articulately decorated with wooden carvings and stone sculptures, and masonry. It presents a beautiful reflection of Nepali history. The next stop is the Swayambhunath Stupa- one of the largest Hindu temples in the city. It is a sacred site that is serenely surrounded by pine and cedar woods. Due to the high monkey population that resides in the woods and often visits the temple grounds- Swayambhunath is also known as “the Monkey Temple.”

After Swayambhunath, the next stop is at the Pashupatinath Temple. This sacred Hindu temple is situated on the banks of the Bagmati River and is one of the main temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. The main Pashupatinath temple area also houses other smaller temples dedicated to numerous Hindu deities, which results in the whole place giving off an ambiance that matches the sacred abode of the gods. Finally, the last major stop during the Kathmandu World Heritage Tour is the Bouddhanath Stupa- one of the largest stupas in South Asia.
