The trek leads from the main trekking trails to hidden paths and villages, on off-the-beaten tracks. Isolated from the rest of the main settlements of Manang and Mustang areas, for you to enjoy the absolute wilderness. Walking in a tranquil environment away from the mainstream in perfect harmony with the natural surroundings of towering snow peaks and verdant valleys.

Annapurna Semi Circuit Trekking is one of the best and most marvelous walks around the high and picturesque Manang Valley. Trekkers can enjoy delightful moments exploring the traditional heritage villages adorned with Buddhism traditional cultures and customs.

Annapurna Semi Circuit Trekking is an enjoyable and exciting adventure of little less than two weeks duration. Starts with a long interesting overland journey from the capital Kathmandu, heading towards Nepal’s Far North-West around Lamjung to Manang district. Reaching the lovely village at Dharapani within the Manang areas, where the trek begins heading due west to Chame town and Pisang village.

Walking on the main trail past nice farm villages of barley, buckwheat field, and apple orchard. The walk from Chame town, enters into a beautiful forest of pines, rhododendron, and firs, following the glacial Masrsyangdi River.

An uphill into woods above the river and then down to a flat valley then reaching Pisang village. The starting point of scenic and magnificent Manang Valley, from here into a strong Buddhism cultural heritage. Where our route diverts heading high above from the main popular trails, heading upper scenic remote isolated villages. On least ventured areas by main flow of trekkers, above Pisang village with a close backdrop of Pisang and Chulu peaks. Enjoying a tremendous panorama of Annapurna IV, II, and III with Gangapurna Himal with Tilicho peak.

As the trail follows to the nice old village of Braga with the oldest monastery in the Manang area. Staying in Braga for extra days to explore high Ice Lake or Kicho Tal at 4,620 m. A perfect hike for acclimatization, before heading towards Thorang-La pass, the highest point of the adventure.

After a Braga tour of the impressive monastery overlooking grand views of the snow-capped mountain range, head to the main Manang village. A nice large village adorned with immense Buddhism monuments, festooned with prayer flags, surrounded by an array of giant peaks.

From Manang village on the main trail towards the end of Manang valley with a climb to Thorang High Camp. Enclosed by towering cliff walls with Chulu peaks, the next morning a big climb to the top of Thorang-La Pass.

Reaching on the highest spot at 5,416 m, facing a breathtaking panorama of the snow mountain range. Includes fabulous views of Mt. Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Chulu’s, and Damodar Himal as far towards Manaslu and the peaks of Upper Mustang.

Enjoying the glorious morning refreshing scenery of alluring landscapes, a long descent reaching the Mustang region at Muktinath. A place with a holy Hindu temple, and one of the sacred pilgrimages for all Hindu and Buddhist followers. At Muktinath with time explore the temple premises with exciting views of Dhaulagiri Himal North Face. The adventure continues towards the end of the treks following an alternative hidden route via Lupra valley.

Walk from Muktinath to Jharkot settlement, as our trail diverts towards Lupra village, situated between Kagbeni and Jomsom route. An interesting place near Panda Khola / stream gorge, visit the village’s oldest monastery of Bon religion. Bon is an ancient pre-Buddhism culture, which is practiced around Upper Mustang, Dolpo, as well as Tamang and Gurung tribes.

A great opportunity to experience the hidden village of Lupra and the interesting Gompa/monastery. After an exciting time at Lupra downhill to Kaligandaki River valley plain towards Jomsom for the last overnight stop. Jomsom, is a large town and headquarters of the Mustang district, with a small airport, and an enjoyable place to cruise around. Jomsom is located around Lower Mustang, on the ancient Trans Himalaya Salt Trade route of Nepal and Tibet through Upper Mustang.

From Jomsom enjoy a scenic short flight to a beautiful city in Pokhara, located on the lap of the massive Annapurna Himalayas. At Pokhara, the perfect spot to conclude our wonderful and most mesmerizing adventure Annapurna Semi-Circuit Trekking.

Outline Itinerary:

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu 1,345 m and transfer to respective Hotels

Day 02: Kathmandu with a sightseeing tour, trek briefing and preparations.

Day 03: Drive to Dharapani 1,725 m-07 hrs.

Day 04: Trek to Chame town 2,710 m – 05 hrs.

Day 05: Trek to Upper Pisang village 3,540 m-02 hrs.

Day 06: Trek to Braga 3,480 m via upper route Ngawal and Gheru-05 hrs.

Day 07: At Braga acclimatize hike to Ice Lake 4,620 m and walking to Manang 3,540 m- a total of 6 hours with ice-lake and to Manang.

Day 08: At Manang rest day for acclimatization.

Day 09: Trek to Yak Kharka 4, 110 m – 04 hrs.

Day 10: Trek to High Camp 4,900 m -04 hrs.

Day 11: Trek to Muktinath 3, 800 m crossing high Thorang la pass
5,416 m /17,700 feet – 06 hrs.

Day 12: Trek to Jomsom 2,715 m via Jharkot, Lupra village 2,790 m -06 hrs.

Day 13: Fly to Pokhara with a free afternoon.

Day 14: Drive or fly back to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel -06 hour drive.

Day 15: International Departure homeward bound.

Itinerary

On arrival at Kathmandu and Nepal International Airport, received by our guides and staff for short transfer to your hotels in the hub of Kathmandu city.
Checking your lovely room, after having a refreshing rest join with other members of Annapurna Semi-Circuit Trek. Our guide or group leader brief about the treks, do’s and don’ts, local culture, as well of foods and lodge accommodation on route trek. A full detail and good information which will help to enjoy your adventure with us.

Morning after breakfast at given time, our city guide will meet for an interesting sightseeing tour around world heritage sites of Kathmandu.

Tour includes old Durbar (royal palace and courtyard) square, with Temple of Kumari (Living young virgin Goddess). Visit famous Nepal landmark Swayambhunath Stupa a 2,500 years old, a Buddhist Stupa.

Afternoon tour of holy Hindu Temple of Pashupatinath and visit Bouddhanath, Asia’s largest Stupa with four cardinals eyes of Buddha surrounded with prayer wheels and small market, this place is also known as Little Tibet due to strong Tibetan influence. After an exciting day tour back to hotel for trek preparation with last minute briefing from your leader and guide.

Start early morning for long exciting and interesting drive to Dharapani, the starting point of the trek. The drive follows beyond Kathmandu valley heading down towards low warm farm villages and towns. The best way to observe Nepal beautiful countryside and rural farm life, as drive leads on the main busy highway.
The drive diverts from the main Pokhara and Kathmandu highway, at Dumre town heading north towards Lamjung district. Reaching a large town of Besisar as drive follows Masrsyangdi and towards winding up to Jagat and Chamje villages.
Slowly the drive enters district of Manang at Tal Besi village, and then ending the long drive reaching Dharapani village. Located above the Masrsyangdi River on the junction of Manaslu Circuit route and towards our destination at Manang.
On arrival transfer into a nice cozy lodge, having lovely rooms with a large dining place for dinner, provides excellent food menu.

From Dharapani walk into a nice rhododendron and pine forest past villages of Bagarchap and Danque. A lovely areas with farm field and apple orchard on the backyard. The route leads with steep climb to large village of Timang for lunch stop, offers grand views of Mt. Manaslu and Lamjung Himal.

From Timang village few hours trek leads to Koto and then end the day trek, reaching Chame town for overnight halt. Chame a large, major town and headquarters of Manang district.

After an enjoyable overnight in Chame, morning starts crossing Masrsyangdi River following a pleasant trail. Entering a cool lovely forest of tall pine, firs and rhododendron trees. As walk continues reaching Bhratang village, and then over a bridge with short climb to Dukure Pokhari. A small settlement with few small lodge and restaurants. A nice lunch spot facing views of Annapurna, Chulu and Pisang peaks. After a refreshing stop, walk continues downhill to a flat valley reaching Pisang village. From here entering scenic wide Manang valley, Pisang village located below stunning Pisang Peak.
Leaving the lower Pisang village, a short hike up to Upper Pisang village, diverting our route away from the main trail to main Manang village.
This trail is seldom ventured by few group of trekkers, an enjoyable pleasant path reaching Upper Pisang village for lunch and overnight halt. An exciting and scenic village with an old monastery, which is on route to Pisang Peak and Chulu East base camps also. Enjoy the spectacular panorama of Chulu’s, Pisang Peaks and Annapurna-II, III and IV towards south direction. Afternoon explore the quant sleepy village and its interesting monastery.

Another short and exciting day to start the morning walks on the high trail
above northern side of Manang valley. Where panoramic views of Annapurna,
Gangapurna Himal and Pisang with Chulu’s remains constants during the trek.
Walk leads on dry windswept terrain facing views of Manang valley and Hongde
Village down below with a small airstrip.

Slowly walk lead down to nice windblown Braga, an interesting village with newly
built lodges and old typical mountain houses. Where ancient Braga Monastery
stands atop the village on a high mud cliff ledge. After checking into a lovely lodge
or guest house having lunch, enjoy hike and tour of the old Braga Gompa /
Monastery.

The monastery treasures ancient books, fresco, bright colorful religious paintings
on walls and ceiling. Adorned with big statues of Lord Buddha and famous saint
and gurus, an interesting visit. Outside of the monastery enjoy super panorama
of Annapurna and Chulu mountain range.

A leisure morning for breakfast, after breakfast enjoy a long hike of few hours
steep hike to a high ridge. Where a small glacial Ice lake located, hidden behind
high towering rocky cliffs and snow-capped peaks.

From the Ice Lake, the local name is Kicho Tal, after a tough steep climb enjoy
spectacular scenery. Overlooking panorama of Annapurna, Gangapurna Himal
with Tilicho and Nilgiris peaks towards south, includes close views of Pisang and
Chulu’s in the North direction. After an enjoyable and tough climb, a perfect
hike for acclimatization, before reaching high Thorang-La Pass.
Enjoying the morning scenic and great hike. A long descent takes you back to
Braga and then short walk to Manang village for lunch and overnight stop.

Enjoy leisure morning, facing views of Pisang and Chulu peaks with Annapurna IV
and II. After breakfast exploring the Manang village. The houses are of typical
Tibetan style and tradition, as the native of Manang migrated from Tibet more
than 100 years back. Observe the colorful culture and custom similar to its
Tibetan predecessors. Enjoy an hour hike to Gangapurna Ice-fall and glaciers with
views of Manang Lake.

From Manang village on the main trail to Thorang-La, a half day morning walk leads to Ghunsang. A small settlement as the trail follows, facing view of high snow-capped peaks of Chulu West, and then ending the walk reaching Yak Kharka for lunch and overnight stop. A small settlement with number of nice lodges, situated on a wide grazing pasture for Yaks and other cattle. Afternoon at leisure and enjoy views of Chulu West, Gangapurna and Tilicho peaks at close distance.

Another short day hike, morning starts on pleasant path to Ledar a place with few lodges. From here on gradual winding trail, and then head down stream with short climb from the Jarsang Khola/ stream. The trail follows above the stream on gradual path to Thorang Phedi. Situated at the bottom of Thorang-La pass from Phedi, a short steep climb up to High Camp for lunch and overnight halt.
An amazing settlement with few simple lodges for trekkers comfort, enclosed in between towering high rocky cliffs. Facing close views of Damodar Himal in the north with views of Chulu’s towards east. Afternoon take a rest for next day long climb to Thorang-La Pass.

Big day of the adventure, starting early morning having breakfast walk leads on level winding path. As climb starts following on undulating winding up towards Thorang-La Pass, the highest spot of the adventure. The tallest point of the trek
at 5,416 m / 17,700 feet high, festooned with thousands of Buddhist colorful prayer flags.
Enjoy the panorama of Chulu peaks with Damodar Himal, includes views of Annapurna Himalaya and Dhaulagiri Mountain range. From the top a long descend to the bottom reaching another Phedi of Mustang district.
Having short rest or enjoy lunch break at Phedi, a place with few small tea-house and restaurants. Afternoon a short walk on gradual path to Muktinath for overnight stop. A holy spot for all Hindus, the word Muktinath means
‘Liberation’ to be free from life cycle. At Muktinath transfer into a nice lodge with time for short tour of Muktinath holy complex, overlooking grand views of Tilicho, Nilgiri and Dhaulagiri mountain range.

Last day and short walk of the adventure to Jomsom town, from Muktinath, avoiding the main motorable road. As our route diverts towards remote isolated trail to the hidden valley of Lupra. Enjoy the peaceful walk away from mainstream and busy trail following downhill path to Lupra a small windblown village with
an old Gompa. One of the few monasteries of Bon-Po cult and religion, an ancient and pre-Buddhism sect, situated near Panda Khola / stream.
After a good time on an elusive areas, walk leads down to join the main trail at Kali-Gandaki River valley. Following the dirt wide trail on the river bank to a large town of Jomsom. Headquarters of Mustang district, located on the vantage point of old Trans Himalayan Caravan and Salt Trade Route of Nepal and Tibet / China.
Jomsom and Kaligandaki valley, home to indigenous Thakali people follows Buddhism culture and religion. An interesting and scenic town located on a windswept plain of Kaligandaki River with great views of Nilgiri peaks.
Overnight in the comfort of a nice hotels and lodge, Jomsom provides many lodges and guest-houses from budget, standard to deluxe accommodation.
Afternoon enjoy a stroll around the streets of Jomsom lined with shops, stores and good restaurants. The whole areas of Kaligandaki famous for delicious apples and products.

Morning a short walk to Jomsom airport for short scenic flight to beautiful Pokhara. During air-borne panoramic views of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna Himalayan peaks. As the small aircraft lands at Pokhara airport and transfer to respective hotels by the calm Phewa Lake.

Pokhara, a renowned touristic destinations in all Himalayas, a picturesque city overlooking views of massive Annapurna Himalaya with famous and magnificent Machhapuchare Himal 'Fish Tail'. Rest of the day at leisure to explore beautiful Pokhara city and for individual activities.

Morning catching last views of Annapurna Himalaya with majestic Machhapuchare Himal or Fish Tail. An exciting and interesting overland journey on the main highway to Kathmandu. How long does it takes cover Annapurna Semi Circuit?

Various companies provides different itinerary days, as well the start and end of the trek. But with Brown Bear Trail program, the standard itinerary of 11 nights and 12 days, having time for acclimatization. As well for exploring the scenic areas of great charm and cultures.

Is Annapurna Semi Circuit a tough and difficult trek?

Not at all it’s not difficult or tough, except for one day crossing over the highest point of the trek on top Thorang-La Pass. As well on a side trip to Ice Lake, from Braga, but taking slow and steady with short refreshing stops makes the walk much easier and enjoyable.

How many hours a day do you walk?

The longest hours of walks approx. 6 to 7 hours and shortest of 4 hours, average walks of 5-6 hours from the start to the end of the walk. The longest is drive from Kathmandu to Dharapani on a private jeep or similar four wheel drive.

The long drive is necessary to cover the whole trek within 11 / 12 days, a great way to observe Nepali farm and rural life activities.

Can we charge electronics on the trek, and is there internet or Wi-Fi?

Most lodges around villages do have good electricity power, where one can charge electronics items. Some settlements like Yak Kharka and at High Camp, after Manang will have electricity run by solar power. For charging every items one needs to pay as per hour, the price can differ from one village to another.

Most larger and main villages and towns have Wi-Fi like Dharapani, Chame, Pisang and Manang. The only places where Wi-Fi not available is Yak Kharka, Ledar and High Camp before Thorang-La Pass.

If it’s available with disturbing service due to blockade by high rocky cliffs and mountains. As well from cold climate as well as in cloudy afternoon time. Rest of the area on treks are good for Wi-Fi and available all around the route to Jomsom town.

Best seasons for Annapurna Semi Circuit Trek:

The best time for this wonderful adventure is in the spring and autumn seasons, from March to May, and autumn/fall begins from September to November months.

Springtime from March to May will be much lively with wildflowers in seasonal bloom, especially the magnolia and rhododendrons the national flower of Nepal.

March to May fine clear day most of the time, with longer sun-light hours but can get overcast in the late afternoon with chances of snow sometimes on high altitude areas as well on passes. Autumn / Falls another best time for this trek with a fine clear day for views and walks.

During autumn / fall days are shorter due to sun-light hours, but most days are clear for views, late afternoon, and nighttime temperatures drop to freezing cold around the higher region with the bright starry night sky. Chances of snow on trails as well on passes sometimes during spring and autumn times.

Religion and Culture:
North Mid-West Nepal around Manang and Mustang districts populated by Bhotia and Manang people the mountain tribes. The native around high Manang and Mustang follows strong Buddhism religion of age-old culture similar to their predecessors Tibetan, on this trek will notice traditionally built houses, where every home is adorned with Buddhist prayer flags and religious monuments.
